Bending Light — What does an overturned, clean, refractive glass coffee mug represent to you? Ready to be re-used and filled with sustenance and joy until the cycle repeats itself.
One of my most favourite #glass vessels: A marvellous #Roman vessel in the form of a #pig, made of blue glass. It was used to hold ointment or perfume.
Found in a burial in Cologne. Dating late 2nd/early 3rd c. AD
Just saw a video on Superfest glass, which used ion exchange to produce stronger glass. The process was developed by Corning at about the same time. While there was a ready market in DDR for #Superfest, there wasn't much market for either in the West. Superfest closed in the early 1990s, and Corning shelved their product, until smartphone manufacturers came looking for tougher screens. #MaterialScience#Glass https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superfest
Fascinating world of ancient #glass:
A #Roman glass bottle shaped like a date: dates, figs, and honey were New Year's gifts in Roman times. According to Ovid, they should make the new year a sweet one.
Some plants today. Our snake plant at home has been blooming. It's fragrant flowers are dripping with nectar- but since they are indoors, no hummingbirds or bees to slurp it up. Also the plant next to the snake plant is also taking off since I have been watering it so much.
At BrooklynGlass I went to get some neon tubes this morning and saw this neon tube double vase. I should really pitch a quick one day intro class just making lil vases like this out of tubing- so fun!
5 points to anyone who can tell me what the plant next to the spider plant is?
‘The idea of #AI wearables is not new. Enough time may have passed for Silicon Valley to forget the debacle of Google #Glass, the AI-powered headset that the search company launched in 2013 but largely abandoned just two years later. But the reaction to #Humane will only fuel suspicion that the latest attempts to reboot Glass are just another manifestation of an AI funding bubble.’ https://www.ft.com/content/ccec597d-11bb-4105-858f-78580d4331a1
Fascinating world of ancient #glass: A close-up of the spiral design of a mosaic glass bowl, one of the principal patterns employed by Hellenistic glassmakers. The three-dimensional effect is truly mesmerising. 2nd century BC
Dolores is an utterly charming and beautiful soul and I feel very lucky that I got to spend so much time in her company for this article – the first ever about her in the English language, I believe!
Mainly small roads, took us past Lindean Glassworks where we took a short break to ogle some of their lovely work. Now now only open by appointment (unless you are lucky) until June 18k, road with some tracks.
Bulleye glass panels in a close door of the 1907 Anniesland Mansions in the West of Glasgow. Bulleye glass was made using the hand-blown Crown Glass technique.
