The difference between Israel and Hamas is clear, one a democracy (with problems) and the other is a terrorist organisation. At the same time it means Israel's actions should maintain high standards with regard to innocent victims. They seem to be failing in that respect... #gaza#hamas#israel
"The #protesters carried a banner that said “It is right to rebel, #Hillel go to hell,” with an inverted red triangle on it, which has come to signify support for #Hamas on social media because the terror group uses the symbol in videos of its attacks. The student demonstrators repeatedly formed inverted triangles with their hands, flashing the symbol at the counter-protesters. Another protester brandished a banner that had a #swastika inside a Star of David while shouting: “#Synagogue of Satan.”
The pro- #Palestinian, anti- #Israel demonstrators chanted “From #CUNY to #Gaza, globalize the #intifada,” and “Hillel, Hillel, what do you say? How many kids did you kill today?”
Israel said it would soon decide whether to launch an offensive in Lebanon, where it has clashed with the Iran-backed group Hezbollah for months. Steven A. Cook, a Senior fellow for Middle East Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations tells FRANCE24's Monte Francis that Hezbollah's large stores of rockets, missiles and precision munitions pose a bigger threat to the general Israeli public than the actions of Hamas on October 7th. #Israel#Hezbollah#Hamas
Israel's far-right wants the killings to continue!
Two far-right Israeli ministers have threatened to resign from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition government over a cease-fire proposal outlined by President Biden on Friday. #AureFreePress#News#press#headline#Israel#gaza#Hamas
"Saying no to Biden means saying yes to more futile, wholesale bloodshed, of Israeli soldiers &, more so, of Gaza's inhabitants; yes to the death of the last of the hostages in Hamas captivity; yes to genocide; yes to war in the north; yes to declaring Israel a pariah state... And someone affirming all of the above should be condemned as a war criminal by his own country, unless we are all war criminals"
Gideon Levy in Haaretz today
I want peace in the Middle East, and Israel has offered a new peace treaty that is backed by many countries, including Middle East countries, as well as the US.
Will Hamas accept this peace treaty?
Will they abide by the peace treaty?
And will those who cry "Ceasefire Now", promote this treaty?
NYT—Breaking News: President #Biden said that #Hamas was no longer capable of carrying out a major terrorist attack on #Israel and declared that it was time for a permanent cease-fire in #Gaza. “It’s time for this war to end,” he said.
Earlier today I saw a headline that said #Biden was calling on #Israel for a "permanent" ceasefire with #Hamas in #Gaza. Now he's telling Hamas they should agree to a 6-week ceasefire, during which time they release all hostages—thus giving up any leverage they have. After those six weeks, "the ceasefire will still continue as long as negotiations continue." As John Mullaney said, "that's something, honey, but it's not" a permanent ceasefire. (Yeah, he was talking about hot dog eating contests.)
