"To this day, there remains no better Rosetta stone for deciphering the Nirvana generation's view of work than 1999's 'Office Space,' Mike Judge's paean to the plight of the X-er cubicle drone," says Melanie McFarland, writing for Salon. 25 years after its release, she looks at what the movie tells us about work in America, then and now. "It reminds us that we've all lived some version of Peter's frustration and thus relate to his dream of doing nothing," she says.
The die I designed for a trade show in Bogota, Colombia. The words are just block letter but the bottom was created by me based off the trade shows materials and website.
I've been getting more calls and visitors to my office with questions than usual. Apparently the plant manager and 1st shift supervisor are both off. So by default everyone is coming here with no one at the rudder...
Good morning friends, I hope you're all doing well. I'm back at work after a long break and not really happy about it. 🤬 My family got me a new desk toy I'm excited to play with once I'm done unfucking everything here. I haven't played with a Lite Brite in many years.
Have a great Thursday! At least it's close to Friday...
True story. I tried to humour an old tech colleague/friend with a joke I read online (you have seen it by now too). He crushed me with this deadpan response. He killed me:
Me: I was going to tell you a joke about UDP, but you probably wouldn't get it. 😆
Techy workmate: It's funnier that way. 😑
I thought the joke was pretty good at the time. But I've never told it since. 🤣
It is 🎄 "the season" 🎄 again. Kids, remember you don't have to be "fun" at work, especially not if events are held after hours. This is now enshrined in law in France.
Whenever I complain about my job I'll have to remember that there's always something worse. Today "hippo sterilizer" is top on that list of shitty jobs worse than mine...
Colombia starts sterilizing hippos descended from pets of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar
I'm feeling the full weight of Monday. Our stellar sales department has messed up literally every order entered today. I guess I shouldn't care, I'm hourly, but it's still annoying having to work overtime for other people's simple mistakes.
I'll stop my bitching now... How's your Monday going?
Coworkers that insist that no one is allowed to cross over into their area of responsibility yet will NOT reply to an email request, can't seem to open a ticket if requested, won't acknowledge anyone else who opens a ticket or even address a topic in a meeting.
Bosses that chastise you for "doing it the wrong way" publicly but decline to offer any guidance or provide criteria for doing it the "right way" when addressed privately.
I'm working alone today, my apprentice is a no call no show again. I'm now curious how many he can get away with? It's at four currently. My boss was lamenting that it's now his responsibility to contact people instead of the other way around. No one under 30 feels the need to let people know they won't be in.
Good morning everyone, TGIF! 👋🙂 It's been a shit week and I'm ready for a few days off. I saw this meme this morning and it reminded me of a few times my old coworker that retired saved my ass. Now I'm off to a payroll meeting with my nemesis HR. 🤬
