03 Who is your most creative character?

It depends on what we call "creative".

Maistro has macgyvered many solutions to very complex situations with duct tape and a multi-tool.

Dr. Apocalypse is seen as a creative guy because the "wacky stories" he's always telling.

Laura is said to be a really good painter. A broad brush painter, Bob Ross (on drugs) style.

And the medical regenerator is very creative with his healing/rebuilding techniques…>=)

The fairy-godmothers gathered around the bassinet.

"She shall be unblemished by illness, in body and mind."

"I grant her a way with words, but never for selfishly evil reasons."

"And her coffee will always be perfect."

The other two looked at the last, eyebrows raised.

"Once she's old enough, until then, any beverages will not disappoint," she added hastily.

"Excuse me, do you have permission to be in the NICU?" demanded a nurse.

3/6: Who is your most creative character?
Define ‘creative’. Conventional associations with art, music, etc, seem too narrow to me. Consider the early pages of ‘Vows and Watersheds’, where Jerya and Hedric bond over the idea of measuring the distance to the moons; is that creative? Why not?
I don’t yet have a character in print who is seriously into art, but if you can hang around for Books 5 and 6…

3/6: Should books include a content warning?
I haven’t included content warnings in any of my books. I would do so if they included graphic violence or explicit sex, but I don’t tend to do that anyway. The question, of course, is where you draw the line. I do have same-sex (FF) intimacy, and if someone is offended by that, I feed that’s their problem. I’m not inclined to pander to prejudice.

334 — How does your MC handle sadness and depression?

The devil-girl is at heart a control freak; she's just not mean or unpleasant about it. Depression results when she's stymied in finding how to control problematic situations from which she cannot escape, which usually ends up with her trying crazy and dangerous things to bully her way through.

But...

If it the situation puts people at risk and she can't do anything about it...

She did have a mental break one time, where she failed to harm herself.

Another time... well, her employer died, though it was because her employer became too stupid to live. She has enduring PTSD, and it's not because of her too young age. It's that she's was raised to be responsible and doesn't know how to let go.

Today, in my adventures in foolishly asking the internet general research questions:

The internet, shamelessly repeating the same factoid endlessly: throwing rice at weddings is an ancient tradition dating back to the Romans!

An anonymous old lady writing a cranky letter to the editor in 1895: this is a modern tradition that doesn't date back more than forty years and needs to stop before it takes a new bride’s eye out.

I really want to get back to vignettes, but right now, some more parts of world-building are occupying my attention. I have this divination system almost complete, and I'm realizing more and more that I really need to flesh out this bar and grill that many of my characters go to... like, partly so that I can set scenes there in vignettes! 😆

Anyway, I'm reminding myself that it still counts as even if it's background/world-building work.

Everything was all fine and dandy: chillin, walking my dog, working on my until

It became dark,
The wind picked up,
The animals got quiet,
And now I'm running home like a bitch so the doggie doesn't get wet.

(Still not as bad as the storm on Tuesday though)

Probably the wrong question. I write sapphic novels. Yuri. I have a few bit characters that are str8. Mikito-sensei is the only one with much screen time and he could easily be ace. Let's see , , , (, & )

333 — Any characters who are a part of the + community?

More than one, and in many of my stories. Loren is non-binary and genderfluid teen, with variable preferences depending on the hour of the day and how their brain wired (literally) at the moment. Maistro is everything-sexual (as long as there's consent and of legal age). The Still Unnamed Daughter might have done some non-het experimentation. And Our Hero learned to like women's clothing and shoes…>=)

It was miraculous. It was almost no trick at all, he saw, to turn vice into virtue and slander into truth, impotence into abstinence, arrogance into humility, plunder into philanthropy, thievery into honor, blasphemy into wisdom, brutality into patriotism, and sadism into justice. Anybody could do it; it required no brains at all. It merely required no character.” Joseph Heller, Catch-22

01 June: Introduce yourself and/or update us on your writing journey.

I'm Ben, currently trying to find my way into serial fiction.

Since last time, I started a small creativity e-zine, and wrote a post on the use of random oracles in for getfreewrite.com.

I'm currently working on the first episodes of my urban fantasy series "Fraktur", in which I'm trying something new: making most of my writing process public in a dedicated section of my website.

"It's the future, why haven't we cured hiccups," whined Vena, between hiccups.

Her robotic companion rose, shrieking, "Destroy all humans!"

Vena hiccuped again, "Sorry, that isn't going to work twice."

"Then I am out of ideas," said Robonnie, sounding defeated, curling up on a cushion.

Vena stifled yet another hiccup, and started to speak, only to jump as something slammed into the window.

"Ow," said Robonnie's remote drone.

"I'm cured!"

#WritersCoffeeClub #Writing June 1: Intro (cont)

There are 3 books (Origins, Marathon, and Labyrinth, last is ongoing), links are pinned on my feed. First is a space road trip that runs into a conspiracy, second is sort of like the game "FTL: Faster Than Light", third is essentially a space dungeon crawl with cosmic horror elements.

As my books are free webnovels in a genre that is rare nowadays, I am desperate for publicity! Check them out if you like hard sci-fi!

#WritersCoffeeClub #Writing June 1: Intro

I am Max, a hard sci-fi fan and amateur writer. Since 2 years ago or so, I have been making my own constructed world and novel series to go with it. It is semi-optimistic, a contrast to the recent flood of doomer sf, but mostly respects science and puts a lot of effort to worldbuilding and "realistic" alien designs. In effect the setting is a modernized and science-ized space-opera, though the books have somewhat unusual premises for this kind of sf.

After not really perusing the club for all of May, it's time to come back to it!

June 2: Do you have any regrets as a writer, or do you never look back?

I regret rushing my first book's launch instead of cleaning it up first, I think the Stardust franchise had a rough start because of it and only began taking off with Marathon, I cleaned it up by now but the damage is done. :/

I also have a few worldbuilding regrets but they're fairly minor and behind the scenes.
