“Despite the mental toll of the work, which has left many content moderators suffering from PTSD, their jobs are some of the lowest-paid in the global tech industry, with some workers earning as little as $1.50 per hour.”
“More than 150 workers whose labor underpins the AI systems of Facebook, TikTok and ChatGPT gathered in Nairobi on Monday and pledged to establish the first African Content Moderators Union”
A few words about Mapilio, the new alternative to Mapillary and KartaView (competitors(?) to Google Street View), but mostly on how to download the images published there
Finally, the #FTC intends to impose real #privacy rules on #Meta: New services or service changes only after an independent privacy evaluation shows that they are compliant. No commercial use of data harvested from #underage users.
I am conflicted by @mozilla content policies announcement. I appreciate that a lot of thought went into it, but I think they could be used to eliminate a lot of necessary social tension.
An example is their violent content policy: “Users may not share content that depicts abuse of humans or animals, or that includes excessively gory or violent imagery that…can disturb other users.“
I am a lifelong #vegetarian and I’ve been #vegan for 20 years. Photos of meat/dead animals disturb me. Am I to assume then that sharing this content will be banned in that instance? And if not, why not?
Also, nothing on who will be #moderating content. Is it volunteers, #Mozilla staff, external contractors??
Mozilla is a very well-funded nonprofit with almost $75 million dollars in assets. If any organization can scale a #fediverse#Mastodon instance, it is them. Yet even they are replicating the #Twitter#Facebook#Meta model of outsourcing moderation.
Outsourced moderators will be denied Mozilla's famous world-class benefit packages AND all the rights non-contracted workers are entitled to. Thanks to Prop 22, they could even be gig workers or perma-temps.
US-Behörde: Facebook immer noch "substanzielles öffentliches Risiko"
Trotz Rekordstrafe soll Meta weiter Datenschutzauflagen verletzt haben. Die FTC will jetzt speziell Kinder schützen. Ob das Manöver gelingt, ist offen.
What a shit #Facebook is. Someone registered an account with my email, and now I receive shitload of spam from them. I cannot remove that account, FB forms are not working and it seems the only way to delete that account is to PROVIDE scanned document of my ID, which will not match the said account and it’s my ID I don’t want to share with Facebook. Fuck you, Suckerberg. I hope you rot in agony along with your shitty scam company.🤡
US FTC says as a result of #Facebook misleading parents and failing to protect the privacy of children using the Messenger Kids app, Meta will now be prohibited from profiting from data it collects on users under 18.
I wish I never got exposed to any #SocialMedia. I was a late #Facebook adopter & it didn’t take me long to feel depressed because of all my friends faked charmed lives. Then I found out my overseas cousin, who I was fond of, turned out to be an annoying asshole. I had a friend stalk me around Facebook & comment to every post I made. After 3 years I dumped FB. In 2016 I was on Twitter when disgusting liar clown #Trump won & got fully addicted to all the depressing news. For what? I believe FOMO.
I am seeing people share things and news links intended to persuade or outrage people.
When I look to see what sources are cited, for corroboration, so on and so forth, there is nil. I've done this for roughly about 90% of the things I ran into via the the Explore tab, & I turned up nothing 60% of the time.
Another thing I realized yesterday is that I've been holding back on fully embracing Mastodon as my social media home. I've felt so burned by #Facebook monetizing its users that my profile there is filled with fake info, and I rarely post there anymore...especially anything personal. I basically only keep the account around to check in on friends and family.
Here, I don't feel like a product; I feel comfortable opening up a bit more. It's been taking some adjustment, to say the least!
WordPress.com: Why #Twitter Auto-Sharing Is Coming to an End
For WordPress.com and #Jetpack users, Twitter will no longer be part of Jetpack Social. However, we’re adding #Instagram and #Mastodon very soon. In the meantime, auto-sharing to Tumblr, #Facebook, and #LinkedIn still works as expected, and you can continue sharing your blog post links on Twitter manually through their app or desktop site.
This confirms what I've been thinking #Musk is going to do with #twitter. He's turning it into a big mall: first he partnered with eToro to expand the #financial services they offer, now he's trying to set up a virtual #news stand, next it will be #shop-fronts for every #brand that wants to sell things on Twitter.
The idea here is that he'll get rent for the shop-fronts, while also getting a cut off all the transactions...
@unattributed That actually sounds like a good idea considering how much people use social media; but, we've never seen this done successfully because (both #FaceBook and #Instagram have failed at this).
But, I was mostly referring to #Twitter trying to become a home for articles. I doubt it will find a way to integrate them well; it's still a microblogging platform at heart, after all.
The idea of charging per article is pretty cool though.
