My friend Annie H has an excellent piece on the overlaps of Thai and Malaysian cuisine, that defy neat national borders and national myths

When students from Linfield University in McMinnville, Oregon, cleared invasive Himalayan blackberry from a meadow on campus, a bank of camas seeds sprouted. "The university found itself with a thriving patch of Indigenous first foods," says @Toastie. For High Country News, they write about how this discovery birthed a festival, the Linfield Camas Festival. The one-day event is devoted to the wildflower, its place in Indigenous cuisine, culture and ecosystems, and educating others about food sovereignty and more.

I made homemade rose petal jelly yesterday and it is BEYOND delicious! So proud how well it turned out, everything from the color to the petals still inside looks so pretty...

New to our family, sandwich rolls: lavash, mayo, lettuce, prosciutto, havarti cheese. I am trying to find foods Drew can eat since he is not using his left hand very often. Regular sandwiches are a mess since he can’t tell the strength of his grip in his right hand. A firm hold means the sandwich filling falls out. Same for burgers now. Yay for Trader Joe’s lavash - only $2.49 for a large package. 2 pieces for 8 rolls. And it worked well.

PS Anyone else having trouble finding food that a person with #Dementia or #Alzheimer can eat, feeding themselves? Since my son is losing more and more dexterity due to declining, he still wants his favorite foods in the way he has always had them yet he really can't deal with using his hands much at the same time he needs a special larger, round spoon to eat. About 1/2 of his meals the caregiver has to finish by feeding him.

Today's plan:

🍌 bake banana bread
👖 locate pants that need hemming
🧵 hem said pants
🧺 check laundry schedule and maybe do laundry?
🎮 play some Tears of the Kingdom
🎲 decide what Dimension 20 season to rewatch next (Maybe USC?)

Also probably work a little bit. I need to at least send out the schedule for tomorrow and do a social media post.

Afternoon check in!

Banana bread is in the oven!

Have not located the specific pants I was looking for. However I located a pair that will suffice for tomorrow.

My laundry day is tomorrow, so plans have been made.

Progress in TotK! Several shrines, one sky tower, a few signs, and general exploration. Gosh I do love that game.

Person and I decided on Unsleeping City 1 then 2 for our next D20 watch (life is so empty without new episodes on Wednesdays).

@msquebanh Preserved Duck Eggs are 1. Not something I knew existed and 2. Something I really want to try now that I know about #1

@msquebanh

I've been making this "dish" for years.

It's easy to make. You can now buy the fried dough ("yow til") at 99Ranch, as well as the preserved duck eggs ("pei don"). Otherwise, you just need the long grained rice (boiled to a thick & smooth consistency which requires some practice to get right and some sliced green onions & sesame seed oil to top it off.

It's at the top of my list of Cantonese comfort food. Yum!!! 🤗
