There seems to be something of an inconsistency between what polls are saying with regard to #UKGeneralElection2024 and what the main parties are reported to be doing. I will do my best to outline what I think may be going on. Hope someone will find it interesting.
Such results are not far away from the projections made early last month by #rallings and #thrasher following the #LocalElections . So some weight should be given to them.
If anything is an indicator of what to expect in the general election, it's how my constituency, Rushcliffe, voted in the East Midlands Mayor & PCC elections.
Rushcliffe is Kenneth Clark's old constituency & has voted conservative since 1918 with only 2 blips to Labour in 1945 and 1966. It voted Labour for both elections on Thursday (full results in link).
Heartening to see the Green candidate came third in the mayoral election.
Given the virtual embargo Greens live under with U.K. media and BBC prime time political programmes like Question Time heavily promoting Farage and now Reform instead, Green Party of England and Wales should be bloody proud of the results they pulled off in #LocalElections
RT by @CarolineLucas: 🌱 Thank you to everyone who voted Green yesterday! Six Green Party councillors have been elected to the city council, meaning the council is under no overall control.
Still waiting on the local election results where I am, predicted to be announced at 19:00. The council website is showing turnout data for most, but not all, areas (including a miscalculation) so I'm guessing it won't be soon, but would also like to know if I should keep checking tonight or wait until tomorrow. A friend was going for election. #LocalElections#UKPolitics
My councillors stayed the same (good), just waiting to find out if the leafleting I did on Wednesday bore fruit in a neighbouring ward. #GreenParty#LocalElections#UKPolitics
The #Greens are hoping for a win in the Bunwell by-election, strengthening their chances of winning the Waveney Valley constituency in the General Election.
WOW. Labour outdoing the Tories on Islamophobia. Rob Mayor is the BBC Political Editor in the West Midlands and this segment was read out on the BBC this morning.
Once the hoo-haa settles on local elections (that no-one in Scotland voted in — slight problem when you’re feverishly trying to extrapolate piss poor turn out into a General Election results map, eh?) even Beth Rigby is sounding crestfallen that Starmer has fucked up her chance to break a ‘landslide for our times’ prediction.
Starmer could still piss away the General Election. He’s so awful no one’s actively running too him — he’s winning because the Tories are staying home or voting Lunatic.
Today’s consensus analysis as the #LocalElections dust settles…
EVEN faced with the most corrupt and loathed Conservative Government Britain has ever suffered, Starmer still isn’t gaining enough votes to win even a single seat majority in Parliament at #GE2024
His revolting position backing Israel’s genocide in Gaza and generally him just being a Tory not all that attractive to anyone progressive, bar the tribally blinkered it seems.
One of the stats (interesting to me) about Labour winning/gaining the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner election yesterday is that around half of the postal votes issued were not returned.
All told, I think this was my favourite local election evs. The Tories are going to choke, a crowd told Starmeroid to go fuck himself outside his own polling station, and Spaffer got told to fuck himself for not complying with a law he himself enacted.
Sweet.
So glad the rumour that Johnson got turned away from a polling station for lack of photo ID is actually true. Hilarious. Reportedly the fool thought an envelope with his name and address on would do.
FYI, for those considering a Tory vote in the English local elections today because you can't support an alternative..
Despite the common wisdom, it is perfectly okay to stay home and abstain
