Scenes from a walk around Kobe, all shot with Nikon FE-2 and Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 on Fuji Superia 400. I tried to achieve a dreamy mood. (Someday I’ll get proper lab scans made, these are my own scans of the prints I have, using a cheap home scanner.)
The old town of Takayama in Gifu Prefecture has been beautifully preserved with many buildings and whole streets of houses dating back to the feudal ages, when the city thrived as a wealthy merchant town. This kind of scenery lends itself to being photographed on film, so here is a photo set taken with Mamiya 6 and 50mm f/4 lens on Fujicolor Pro 160 NS.
Osechi-ryōri are traditional Japanese New Year’s foods, with each of the dishes symbolizing a New Year's wish. The food is plated in a lacquered box called a jūbako, which the whole family eats from.
Photo taken a couple years back at my in-laws’ house in Okayama. Shot with Nikon FE2 and Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens on Fuji Natura 1600 film.
Naka-in is a Buddhist temple in Kawagoe built in the year 828, said to be the origin of tea culture in Kawagoe and Saitama Prefecture. It is also a pretty nice spot to view autumn leaves, a little away from Kawagoe’s frequently overcrowded historic city center.
All photos shot with Mamiya 6 and 50mm f/4 lens on Fujicolor Professional Pro 400H film.
Today's set is four photos from Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture, shot on Fuji Astia slide film that was 16 years past its expiration date (but held up reasonably well). Matsumoto is most famous for its beautiful original castle.
Shot with Mamiya 6 and 50mm f/4 lens on Fuji Astia 100F.
A few days before I left Germany for good in 2018, I went for a last walk in the city of Tübingen. I brought a Fuji Simple Ace (disposable 35mm ISO400 film camera with a fixed 32mm lens), and took 27 photos, some of which I will be sharing in two posts over the next couple days.
Harmonica Yokocho is a hidden alleyway of small restaurants, shops and bars located on the north side of Kichijoji Station in Tokyo. A flea market in 1940s postwar Japan, it is named from the way in which its narrow alleys resemble harmonica reeds.
Shot with Mamiya 6 and 75mm f/3.5 lens on Kodak Portra 160 film.
