Reading people's layoff notes the last few days, I would like to share some reminders:

  1. Work will never love you back.

  2. "It isn't personal." Ignore people who say that. Your salary, your sense of purpose and work integrity are personal, and when they are taken away without warning, it affects you personally, even if the decision to cut your position was only about money.

  3. Thinking about your emotions through a job loss as grieving can be helpful.

  4. Work will never love you back.

Quite often on the Fediverse – more often on other social networks – I find people talking about how things were so much better years ago.

And I’m telling you this is a trap. Don’t fall for it. Yesteryear is not better than now, it just feels that way because it’s over.

Progress exists. It’s important that we all acknowledge how things are better. More importantly, you are alive – enjoy this moment.

I was talking about Nokia in 2010, where ex-Microsoft Stephen Elop became CEO of Nokia, cancelled Nokia's projects that would compete with MS's work on Windows OS for phones, entered a partnership with MS to use their OS as Nokia;s preferred phone OS, and then went back to work at Microsoft.

My cynic-sense tingled when i saw those actions.

My personal opinion is that Elop never stopped working for MS, even while he was being employed by Nokia.

Is there a exchange community or group on Mastodon?

I have some chives and green onions that are going to seeds and I will have more seeds than I need.

Of course, there is our local free seeds and plants library but I would prefer to use mastodon as my main seeds resource.

    Remember Jackson.

The organisers of the protests were gradually murdered over the next few years, as well as the 60-year-old curator of the museum of Black History, whose body was found in the trunk of her car.

The stories need to be told, but be discrete about it, so you don't get deliberately targetted.

The UK's current PM, when he was Chancellor in Johnson's Cabinet, was meeting with exec's and C-suite staff of healthcare companies in the USA.

They were explicitly talking about the "opportunities" within the UK's NHS.

The pattern described has been used over here as well.

There's an excellent fictional description of the techniques to be found in "The Delirium Brief" by @cstross
