This is where we’re heading. If anyone tells you fairytales about “keeping 1.5 in reach” or “keeping 1.5C alive” refer them to the Production Gap Report and this graph in particular, and if you want show them the latest statements of fossil psychopaths like the Saudi energy minister or Exxon’s CEO, all hooked up and ready to go for all the hydrocarbon molecules.
If Germans would put the same amount of time, money and energy into restoring wildlife and biodiversity in their gardens, yards, lawns, etc. as they put every year into eliminating all life (especially moss and weeds) from their house entryways and home parking… some use tools, some use chemicals, some pressurised water jets and some will even use flames to remove all life from these areas!
“The feeding places that the bees used to go to [to collect pollen and nectar], such as acacias, paliuruses and oaks were all destroyed. The future is uncertain in beekeeping, there is no place to go, all the places have been destroyed,”
“After the wildfires and the floods, beekeeping has regressed a long way. Bees are disappearing,”
“Humanity’s 21st century challenge is to meet the needs of all within the means of the planet. The Doughnut of social and planetary boundaries is a playfully serious approach to framing that challenge, and it acts as a compass for human progress this century.”
Kate Raworth, “renegade economist focused on making economics fit for 21st century realities.”
Most politicians acknowledge #climatechange. However they pretend to do something about it within the framework of the system that is actually fuelling it. By doing this they’re dancing to the music of lobbyists, placing their bets in #magicalthinking and openly showing they’re #climatecrisis deniers.
Most people who are categorised (unfairly) as such are asking serious and necessary questions about addressing the #ClimateCrisis with business as usual, e.g. green growth or buying an EV car.
It seems to me that those shouting “doomer” to others are actually throwing a straw man to either defend the status quo or their own personal interests.
@_noelamac_ when you realise we cannot just adapted our current way of life to the new situation, that, for example, the private car – except for some disabled users – just has to go, you start to realise that we can construct a new way of life which is less stressful, less atomised, more convivial, for the overwhelming majority of us more secure.
#Degrowth can mean a better quality of life for almost everyone.
