A Penn donor talked about rescinding a $100 million donation, because Penn is improving its DEI and he didn't like that.

After Magill fell into the GOP trap by flubbing that answer, the donor rescinded the donation pending a new president.

Right-wing framing is that the new president will be someone that is "Not anti-semitic." Left framing is that the new president will be "Someone that speaks with clarity on protecting Jewish students." Both slightly off.

The new prez will likely be anti-DEI

It's amazing how little many of the people who set tech policy understand about tech.

E.g., here's Senator Orin Hatch bragging about chairing the Senate High-Tech Task Force and then, puzzled, asking Zuckerberg how the company could possibly sustain a business if they don't charge users.

Zuck, caught off guard, takes a long pause and responds, "Senator, we run ads" (Zuck and the two FB staffers behind him, a VP and a lobbyist, hold in their laughter, with varying degrees of success).

I was born in USSR. There were no votes in USSR. I remember Perestroika. When I was just a teen, my parents were seriously discussing going off the grid to sit out the civil war if the 1991 KGB putsch against Gorbachev succeeded. Everybody was surprised when it failed. What followed was very confusing time, people had no idea how democracy is supposed to work, including the people who somehow made it work anyway, for a few years.

#Facebook always hides bad news behind Friday afternoons and other news cycle dead zones. For this to merit the Thanksgiving weekend placement, it had to be truly horrible.

And it is just that: truly horrible. The unsealed sections are filled with quotes from #Meta employees and execs discussing how to misrepresent the facts about #Instagram causing mental health issues and self-harm in children.

If you are a European, urge your government to step up the defence spending. If you are an American, vote for Democrats. Last time we had a war like this in Europe, it killed tens of millions.
