“Mundus, Quo Vadis?”

https://babumenos.com/blog/2023/11/mundus-quo-vadis

“The law of the jungle has gained foothold everywhere. That’s why many of us feel as if society is regressing now: Human evolution has always been driven by co-operation.”

Oh, and by the way: My new single is out today. It’s called “It’s Not Me, It’s You” and I deem it a protest song, but you might deem as you please, of course :)

Still working on an accompanying video, but here’s a link to all the commercial streaming and buying platforms: https://listen.music-hub.com/xz9jCG

General question re: Mastodon update → 4.2.0

When I click on the text of a reply to a comment I made, I am no longer forwarded to this particular bit of the communication, but the whole thread from the top. Only when I copy the link from the publish time indicator (top right) and enter it into a new tab, I am forwarded to the actual comment/reply.

Does anyone else experience this?

Good news, gang!

I see this all the time: a communist, socialist, anarchist, environmentalist, union-promoting, strike-supporting, political social media account — and when you look at their contact info, it’s something-something@gmail.com.

Google, seriously? The notoriously anti-democratic, spying, data-grabbing, ubiquitous mega-corporation?

It’s not difficult to open a mail account with a more trustworthy provider. And there’s always a free version.

Here’s a few ideas:

https://disroot.org/en/services/email
“Disroot is a platform providing online services based on principles of freedom, privacy, federation and decentralization.”

https://riseup.net/en/email
“Riseup provides online communication tools for people and groups working on liberatory social change.”

https://tutanota.com
“Tutanota is the world’s most secure email service, easy to use and private by design.”

https://proton.me/mail
“Keep your conversations private. Proton Mail is an encrypted email service based in Switzerland.”

I’m all but set to release “It’s Not Me, It’s You” on Oct 13, which is a Friday. Good omen, don’t you think?

Listen to the chorus again, this time with vocals, acoustic guitars, and steel tongue drums. I do love those.

As you know, that’s a false claim, and with a great illustration, @axbom shows in detail why that statement is not true; even more detailed here: https://axbom.com/hammer-ai

Frances Ryan, columnist with The Guardian and book author, on the public COVID amnesia:

“Covid’s back, you say? As disabled and vulnerable people know all too well, it never went away”

“Clinically vulnerable (CV) patients still ‘need’ the Covid-19 protections. They just don’t get them.”

“NHS staff in England don’t have to wear a mask, and the majority who have respiratory symptoms are no longer asked to test for Covid.”

“The paradox of the pandemic has always been that the only way to ‘move on’ is to actually engage with it.”

Matthias (@matthiasott) wrote yesterday, how hard it is to follow Why consume all this negative content?

For me, it's all about mental health, even if it sounds weird. I have a harder time to deal with the state of misinformation than reading about climate science. I can use this to make better decisions and become more active. More self-efficacy feels healthy. Better knowledge is a protective layer against all the mass-gaslighting efforts that pretend it's all fine.

babumenos,

@bastianallgeier

You make a really good point there! I feel the same, and about other topics, too, e. g. COVID.

I love how the fascists go on and on that gender-affirming care is “experimenting” on kids when it’s actually based on decades of clinical research and evidence, while meanwhile they’re all-in on conducting the largest experiment ever on children. One with devastating, potentially lifelong consequences:

COVID-19 damages the brain. Students have trouble learning. Connect the dots.

“They’re actually starting to see students backslide, losing the knowledge and skills they had. Across all age groups, students are falling behind.”

“Study after study has shown that Covid causes severe brain damage and disruption.”

“Covid brain fog remains a common and persistent problem for millions. Patients describe ‘the feeling that their brain is lost in a maze, and they can’t find their way back.’”

“Some people get back to normal after a few months. Others might never recover.”

Those are quotes from Jessica Wildfire’s latest “OK Doomer” substack piece, “It’s Not Learning Loss. It’s Brain Damage, and Schools Are Letting It Happen.” Read it, and get back to wearing a mask when among others.

    babumenos, to iran

I just rediscovered a post I made half a year ago; it was a repost from Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani’s Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/reel/CnFlKHjoFTF/) about the protests and imprisonments and executions in the country. (You remember?)

In the middle of the short clip, a text slide reads, “But the world is watching.” Did we, really? European and US politicians couldn’t have cared less, and how many non-Iranians went to the few protests that happened outside Iran? Did the world watch? And for how long? One news cycle? The Iranian government seems undamaged.

    This makes me really sad.

"Psych Hunter" is like the "Sell your haunted house" but it came out earlier and is probably nuttier. It involves real estate agents, haunted houses, warlords, amnesiacs and Dreamwalkers.
That's the thing with totally unpredictable and over the top at times! 😁

Leading causes of death in the US. remains #4 in 2022, but I don't think that's the whole story. Notice the increase in accidents? COVID is known to damage brains. Or the increase in heart disease and strokes? COVID also harms hearts and blood vessels. No significant increase in cancer, yet, but we may week learn COVID is oncogenic in the years to come. Our goal in 2023 and beyond must be to get infected as infrequently as possible, not invite many infections per year.

    babumenos,

    @augieray

100 % agreed. And what does #6 in ’20, ’21, and ’22 say? I can only see “something-something respiratory disease,” that sounds much like possibly COVID-connected, too?

    Hej Brook,

something seems to have happened with the latest update: the “mark all notifications as read” icon is gone. I’ve looked inside the settings, there’s only a “Clear notifications” eraser, but I do not want to lose them, I only want them to be marked as read.

Am I the only one experiencing this?
