I haven't learned C or C++. I did spend some time learning Java in it's infancy. I'm retired now (a career in Perl, PHP, HTML, and JavaScript), but now concentrating on learning Python and Rust. Should I go back and learn C/C++?

Aid bill for Ukraine finally passes, with the all-important 155mm cannon shells & long-range weapons & continuation plan. Because this will take a while.

Finally, we can expect Ukraine to be able to hit Russia on an equal footing, not outgunned 5-to-1 and banned from hitting the actual supplies far outside Ukrainian borders.

That’s going to change a lot of things.
Slava Ukraïni!

Meanwhile, thank you Joe Biden and the Democrats in Congress! 🇺🇸 🇺🇦

German philosopher Immanuel Kant was born 300 years ago!

Kant’s most famous work, the "Critique of Pure Reason", is often considered one of the most significant works in the history of philosophy. In this book, he introduced the concept of a priori synthetic judgments, arguing that our ability to perceive & understand the world is shaped by the ways our mind structures experiences.

The Critique of Pure Reason by Immanuel Kant

Cover of The Critique of Pure Reason by Immanuel Kant. "The Critique of Pure Reason" (Kritik der reinen Vernunft), published in 1781 and revised in 1787, is Immanuel Kant’s seminal work and one of the most influential texts in the history of philosophy. In this book, Kant endeavors to analyze the faculties of human reason and to establish the capabilities and limits of pure reason.

Kant, Hume, Locke. If you're not familiar with their works, you have absolutely no idea what the American Revolution was actually about.

And if you're MAGA Republican (GQP), I'm quite certain you know nothing about them at all.

It's time to reclaim knowledge, education, and experience... and put them to good use!

Beautiful, magnificent, and noble.

You could point out the Cello has a similar range, tone, sonority... but the Cello can't project the power that a brass instrument can. Because brass instruments are powered by human breath: there's more human soul there by the very nature of the instruments.

Cubs series recap, 2-2 v Marlins

Pretty unacceptable split at home against a team that had just 4 wins coming into the series. This series highlights the flaws of this team. Hoyer and Ricketts want to keep nickel and diming things in hopes of building a winner, but the flaws of this plan are apparent.

Star: Nico Hoerner 8-19, 3 RBI

In the last 8 games, Nico's BA has risen from .171 to .289

Next up: 3 vs Houston

Pitching remains questionable (starters, bullpen, and closers). The rest of the line-up seems reasonably solid both hitting and fielding, but individual streaks good/bad could lay that out too. I haven't seen anything this season that makes me think the Cubs will take their division.

But as usual, I'll keep watching MLB.tv. At least Kyle didn't get shelled in the first couple innings. That's actually a modest improvement. 🤷‍♂️ ⚾ 🐻

There's a huge difference in the consumption of groceries in the USA and Europe. Most Europeans had very small fridges when I lived there in the 1980s/1990s. The Germans I knew generally shopped every couple days, only for what they'd need immediately. In America, we tend to shop for 2-4 weeks, using our vast refrigerators/freezers.

Germans ate fresher foods daily, and consumed them rapidly.

Oh, what the heck - I'll join in.

I attended public schools except for Junior High, where I attended a private school, K-12. My class size there was ~12 kids. It was overall a good experience, with some bullying from the HS age kids.

For High School, I went back to public school. I was one of 1100+ kids in my class, with a total school population (grades 9-12) of nearly 5,000. A sprawling physical campus.

Many people don't understand why I chose to play the Horn... and particularly why I chose to try to make a career of it. Well, it started in grade school, at Miller Elementary School. We got to choose instruments in 4th grade. I chose Trumpet or Drums. They went alphabetically, and by the time they got to me (H)... Trumpets and Drums were gone.

But even if they don’t, we should be feeding hungry kids. Republicans all over the country have been rejecting programs like this. Democratic governors create and expand them.
