I’m watching the Voyager episode “Bride of Chaotica” and while I LOVE the episode, it felt a bit strange that the crew seemed to be enjoying themselves while Chaotica was killing quite a few members of a species they had just met.

I've been rewatching Voyager and it has really stood out how well the CGI of the later seasons has held up to the passage of time. I'd have to say that the crash scene in "Timeless" blew me away when it came out, but it still looks fantastic.

I rewatched "Dark Frontier" last night and the scene where they are installing the transwarp coil into the Delta Flyer was rough.

What are some of your "how did they pull that off" visual effects moments in ?

Hello fellow mappers.

Once upon a time I had an addon for that would allow me to snap two large, closed ways together on one side. It made it crazy easy to map rather large land uses when there are other neighboring closed ways. You would connect two nodes between the two ways, and then you could "merge" the area in between the two" so that there is no empty space.

I can't seem to find this addon anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've been doing this side by side Pixelfed vs Instagram thing at the end of each month. I am posting the same content on both platforms, seeing what the differences look like in terms of engagement.

As I have said before, I've been tracking my followers, likes on each post, comments, and other calculated statistics on both my Pixelfed and Instagram account to see what the difference really is between using the two mediums.

The results? Well, we're 3 months into 2024 and I think there's some common trends I'm noticing.

Let's start with raw numbers.

I am daily driving now for around a year. And wow … it is bad. I just didn’t switch back because I am stubborn and I prefer no ads but the data is absolutely horrible (I am in ).
Does anyone have other alternatives to , or any tips?

I want to preface this next statement by first letting you know that I’m an active contributor to OSM.

Depending on where you live, OSM can be VERY detailed with complete information, but there are also locations where not even addresses have been added.

I've also taken to trying to mark all of the accessible parking spaces that I can see from aerial imagery. It isn't super useful to me personally, but I feel like they're important.

    @virtualbri I'm incredibly disappointed that Jared Leto is still attached to this. Tron, Tron: Legacy, and Tron: Uprising are probably in my top ten favorite movies/shows.

    This makes me have very mixed feelings on Tron 3.

    I want to know what happens to the Flynns and Quorra. I don't care about whatever this is.

    Is there a version of FourSquare / Swarm for the Fediverse?

    I want to check in to a specific location and share that online. Not looking for badges and mayors etc.

    Just a geotagged post saying "I am here".

    @ill_logic @Edent It would be cool if a service like this is built, it would be on top of OpenStreetMap. Heck, maybe it could have a built in, super easy way to add a POI if it isn’t there yet.

    @ill_logic @Edent The only gamified app I know of is @streetcomplete , but it is on Android so I have never used it. As far as I can remember, FourSquare would let you “check in” to establishments, like restaurants and clubs. I don’t know any OSM apps that allow you to do anything other than add/edit information, but I’m on iOS.

    The venerable Voyager 1 spacecraft is experiencing another glitch. Instead of sending science and engg. data, it is sending a 0101 bit pattern.

    The problem has been narrowed down to the flight data system (FDS), which is not communicating properly with the telecom unit (TMU). A reboot did not help.

    Stay tuned as NASA engrs work out a fix for this 1970's era computer, which has performed magnificently during its long 46-year journey to the planets and to outer space.

    @AkaSci It is so fascinating to me that something so far out there can still be troubleshooted and "fixed". I wish NASA had a bigger budget.
