So, I once saw a comedian do a routine about those polls they used to do on dance contest shows. Like, call this 900 number to vote if Ronaldo should move up to the next round.
He said, it's weird that the results would be 48% yes, 49% no, 3% undecided. Because that means that hundreds of thousands of people called a toll phone number and paid $1.95 just to vote "I don't know" in a TV poll.
People want to participate and feel like part of something, even if they don't have a good answer.
@flexghost It's the shitties game. Make the current administration look like garbage by hurting people, and then get the WH and do nothing to help the people they hurt. Tell those people you're bringing them jobs, fair wages, etc. but give them nothing.
Alright Star Wars peeps, I’m going to pin this thread of my non-spoiler-y Ahsoka thoughts. You can look here for my latest thoughts over the next seven weeks. :)
I’ll post a separate content-warned thread with spoilers.
And if you want to join me in watching it each week, check out my site! We synchronize our viewing and chat along on Discord.
@cassidy I haven't watched Clone Wars and Rebels. I'm kinda forcing my way through the series. There's some Interesting stuff going on but it's not really capturing my imagination.
It’s clear that most Republican leaders know Trump would be an electoral disaster, and that they can’t wait for him to be convicted and taken out of the running.
Most of them are just just too gutless to say so publicly because they want his supporters as their own.
@georgetakei The whole situation has really highlighted the worst parts of politics and shown that what most of us think is happening, really is the norm.
"Make way! Matt Gaetz! I got you the underaged girl!"
Gaetz got trolled hard.
He was the keynote speaker at the Okaloosa County Republican Party's annual Lincoln Dinner. During his speech he was heckled by Michael Picard in a way that gives me happy legal-aged butterflies
I don't know who needs to hear this, but the term "woke" didn't start with kids on Twitter.
The was first recorded by Lead Belly in the 1930s in a song called "The Scottsboro Boys," about the dangers Black Americans faced traveling through states in the Deep South. The original line was "best stay woke," as in, "remain aware of the dangers of racism."
Black communities shortened the term to "stay woke," over time, and eventually added "woke" as a state of being--or constant awareness.
@mike The word has been co-opted by the right to mean whatever they want it to mean. They don't care where it came from, only that it's something they can provide their voters to rally against.
I honestly don't use woke anymore, not because it means something bad, but because it's meaning has been perverted to a good portion of the population. It's difficult to have meaningful conversations with people who hear a word or phrase and immediately go on alert.
When Governments make it illegal to feed hungry people and the Cops actually uphold that law without reservation, it's time to admit you live in an authoritarian police state run by oligarchs who want to control every resource and every minute of your time for their benefit.
We can't believe this needs to be said...But slavery did not 'benefit' Black Americans and the Holocaust did not did not help make Jews 'useful,' whatever that means.
"Ad blockers are unethical—ads are how they pay to keep the lights on!”
Exactly. It's how THEY pay to keep the lights on. It's not how I pay for anything. I didn't agree to see ads, although I'm ok with some ads; what I definitely didn't do is agree to be tracked and profiled and have arbitrary third-party code running on my computer just so I could read this awful, pointless, SEO-ified shitfest of an article that doesn't come close to answering the question I was googling.
