So why is it that Fediverse-based software development projects all need to have a Discord or such?

Actually, I know why that is. What I don't know is whether anybody is working on bringing Discord-like functionality to the Fediverse and if not, why not.

Can anyone please suggest a instance to host Creative Freedom Summit on? That would suck if they had to resort to YouTube streaming only so late, right??? 😳 I mean, expectations up to this point were that they'd use for hosting it, no cutting corners. But the test session revealed that https://peertube.linuxrocks.online server has trouble generating livestream metadata, so...

CFS is a free and software conference by Design Team, that is in dire need for an alternative PeerTube instance that (1) aligns with the topic, (2) is available long-term and (3) has a working livestream endpoint. Any recommendations until tomorrow? 🙏 Boost, if you please. :boost_req:

chat server Rocket Chat decided to make their latest upgrade plain abusive. If you run your own, you are now required to enrole in a trial of their premium proprietary nonsense and it's likely the server is spying on it's admins and users.

Looks like is going to have to move chat systems. There's just no way to regain trust in an upstream that is abusive. Not without forking away from the abusers.

I am torn between on one hand my usual attitude of not recommending any technology for communication of sensitive data as they usually all suck, and mostly depend on golden-prison user-hostile environments like Android or iOS;

and on the other hand my enthusiasm for the underlying principles of Simplex.chat as a young piece of software with very promising and forward thinking ideas (reminding somehow of pond, for those who knew of/used it):

Quick tip for any budding projects out there looking to gain some legitimacy and trust ...use non-corporate tools/channels whenever possible.

Don't force your followers/communities on to or other walled gardens.

At the very least, mirror your communications on the open internet.

One of the reasons why I draw is the feeling of travel and exploration, and the feeling that drawing gives you of pausing time, of capturing a moment and staying in it. Thanks to Charles Huettner and Joe bennett for taking me to his planet Vesta and letting me inhabit it from its core.

On YT I just relied on the auto-generated ones but I’ll need to get them created separately for PeerTube. Absolutely top priority, and thanks for the feedback 🙏

EDIT:

I should point out that I use Davinci Resolve Studio and it has a pretty robust caption generator so it's no problem, it'll just take a bit to get them all done. But they're coming!

Looking for an android #PeerTube client that will just let me play the @eulerroom stream without logging in to anything.

I was unable to get any of the ones listed on fdroid to do this, but perhaps this was a UI problem and not a functionality problem?

As long as the recipient used the same email client, and was trusted, voilà encrypted email:)

@rysiek Not that I agree with the tactics, but I think this was an amateur mistake that the founder got caught on... ha ha.

Realistically, at this point in time, I just assume they all do it. From YT / TikTok view counts to product reviews. But yeah, a cardinal sin for a company peddling security and trust.

@rysiek I know this isn't entirely the same thing, but DeltaChat which utilizes email for IM is doing some amazing work and using Autocrypt. So the result is the same from a user perspective, encryption without even the smallest of hurdles.

Especially now with their community servers, which are meant to be dedicated to DeltaChat users.
