Oof.. we just heard a loud bang from downstairs with our elderly neighbors so I called to ask if they needed help. Turns out they did since this time the woman had fallen down

Took some time to calm her and her husband down and checked for injuries, it seems they are lucky every time so far but I’m worried that will end some day..

At least she’s back in bed now :blobcathearts:

Honest question for white people that don't consider themselves racist:

White nationalists have been vocal about their attacks on DEI. These are literally the same people that talk about Charlottesville, Jan 6th, and ethnic cleansing.

They've laid out exactly how they plan to destroy DEI.

  1. Make false claims that DEI is about giving unqualified Black people an unfair advantage

  2. Work with racist politicians to use this as a pretext to make all DEI programs illegal.

@mekkaokereke As the DEI attacks in the public sphere have been increasing, the Amlaw 50 firm I work for has been bolstering its diversity team. Very proactive and leading by example particularly when swimming against the current, and I’m grateful to be working for a company that literally puts their money where their mouth is on this issue.

@futurebird @1dalm Threads for better or worse is ready out of the box. No .gov domain is running their own Mastodon servers yet and scaling them (I see you @hazelweakly 😃) for the kind of traffic they’d need to handle is not a task for an overburdened, underfunded IT team that has no experience with that system yet. I hope they’ll eventually run their own instances independent of anyone else’s platform, but for now at least you don’t need to be on X to read them.

🤯 Caitlin Clark put up 41 points on LSU. 41!

People are giving Hailey Van Lith a hard time because she couldn't stop Caitlin Clark. She couldn't even slow Clark down. But HVL's individual defense wasn't that bad. Seriously, Clark is just that good. And HVL's coach made no adjustments once it was clear that Clark was such a clear mismatch for her.

That was tough to watch though.🫣

If you have the chance to see the upcoming solar on April 8, go for it! Even if you've seen an annular or an almost total one, the difference between that and a fully total one is like night and day –– pun intended!

Here's a shot I snapped of the 2019 eclipse from ESO's La Silla Observatory in . I vividly remember seeing the 's shadow crawling towards us from the Pacific Ocean. Unforgettable!

I agree that the 24x7 CATV opinion-politics-as-spectator-sport model has to die if sanity is ever going to return to public political discourse.

For me, I've decided I'm taking the day off to do some things around the house and run some errands, mainly to get some medicine for my nearly 16 year old kitty, Bess.

After the errands and all, just going to rest and relax and enjoy a day off from work.

@BakerRL75 @ai6yr An old ex-Twitter friend’s wife worked in medical research. He put the “oh shit” alert out to a group of us several weeks ahead of when the mainstream press began picking it up. When the lockdowns came, we were mostly ready, and this fellow will always have a special place in my heart because of it.

As a person who has actually ridden with harbor pilots before and wrote a whole book about shipping goods across oceans here’s a tiny bit of possibly clarifying detail about this horrible bridge tragedy:

If as reported there was a power failure on this container ship that could have been enough on its own to send it into the bridge.

Maneuvers for ships this large are incredibly tight when they are going in and out of harbors. We don’t think about it but harbor pilots perform miracles every day

@david_ingram @tchambers This is dismissal on motions pretty early in the case timeline — even before discovery is granted to the plaintiffs (as is the intended effect of anti-SLAPP protection). So, legal costs of the defendants shouldn’t be too significant at this point…maybe in the low tens of thousands of $$ for a few hours of research and drafting on the motion to dismiss, and a court appearance for the arguments. Where to look for impact: Musk likely wasted a TON of scarce X Corp money having his lawyers to chase this dead end (indeed probably forcing them to push it against their better advice).

He’d be extra stupid to try to appeal the dismissal, particularly to the 9th Circuit, so watch him try. (2/2)
