What are some numbers in your field that anyone else in the field would identify without even thinking about it, but folk outside may have no idea. Just the numbers, no explanations. Yet.
However: You are right with the amount of meteorites we get.
I lived in a small village for some years, where they turned off the street lights at midnight and I can tell you: If it's dark, and you look in the right direction, you can see at least one shooting star per hour.
Most are very small, but some are bigger. What I also didn't know before was that, the bigger ones can also come in red, green and yellow.
Here are the much anticipated 10 images taken by the Euclid "Dark Matter Hunter" space telescope.
The images and accompanying papers were presented today at a gathering by the Euclid Consortium. We have seen the first image before.
These are part of the Euclid Early Release Observation program. The first results from Euclid’s wide and deep main surveys will take until fall, first cosmology papers at least until late 2025.
So am I being extra sensitive about this spam complaint email? Well yeah probably. But see at the end of a long exhausting irritating school year. Also just completed my 20 th year of being an engineering professor so happy anniversary to me! My nerves are shot to singles and it feels like this came out of left field. I love and let live. I have had a woman who wanted to show her br&&@sta on the internet come for my neck about my Black STEM AI art and didn’t file a spam complaint but someone
@drcaberry Do you post a lot and use a lot of hashtags? You do. Do you cover a worthy topic that I don’t see covered anywhere else? Yes! That’s why I follow you. You lift a topic that many of us wouldn’t see otherwise. Is it spam? No. It’s awareness building, representation, and visibility.
FYI - I worked on 2 different #RealityTV shows in #Canada & after those lived work experiences - told everyone I could - don't agree to go on these shows. It's almost all scripted, not reality. Crews are forced to put pressure on voluntary participants - who rarely know WTF they're signing up for & producers exploit naivety. Don't chase easy fame/easy money - they both come at high personal costs. Don't agree to be traumatized on TV, for money. You'll regret it.
@djlink@lertsenem Bad luck, DDG is down because Bing is down 😅 (they rely on Bing for search results)
So this is a great time to try out @Mojeek ! :partymoogle:
@wigbert@RickiTarr Yes, his idea of identifying the differing parties by colored banners was brilliant in those huge battle scenes. And Tatsuya Nakadai was brilliant as the aged king!
I've gotten back into Cyberpunk 2077; This game went from a disaster to becoming the version which should have been released! So many systems reworked, being able to ride the Metro in cinematic style, and the new story of Phantom Liberty makes this game great. It's still disappointing that the pool of romanceable characters is so small, with only one gay man in the entire line up. At least the other parts of Cyberpunk 2077 are so much stronger, like the lore about the Cyberpunk universe; talking about the game makes me want to continue my Phantom Liberty play session!
I’m glad you’re enjoying the game, i wasn’t trying to take that away from you. I just didn’t agree with the statement that it’s the game it should have been.
Serious question: when and in which contexts did calling people "individuals" emerge as a common practice, as a synonym for people? Or "an individual" for "a person"?
I ask because I'm noticing it in student writing, and I associate it with police-speak. I don't know if it's in some corners of social science or medicine too
@inquiline Oh that's fascinating. My inner cynic wants to see if the prevalence at all correlates with Citizens United v. FEC 😅 Police speak would be an even darker origin story.
