The Ai pin truly is inhumane. Boeing is a paragon of safety. Google fired employees for having a basic conscience. The Vision Pro is not the loveliest thing to use during travel. Stardew Valley gets, somehow, another update.
Some belated thoughts on Humane's Ai pin, in a little post I call (checks notes) "Random belated musings on Humane’s Ai Pin". You can see how I'm not using AI to write these headlines, can't you?
It’s an Autumn Sunday morning. That means there’s Sunday Morning Reading to share.
There’s a real mix this week from con artists to cruelty, from the political and the cultural to famous fart jokesters and a bit of tech thrown in for good measure.
Featuring writings from @Onmyom on the AI Pin and @natania among others.
The Humane founders spending the first entire minute of their presentation talking about how the battery booster powers a smaller battery has real “here's how a plumbus is made" energy
I get Humane AI Pin's goal for going phone-less while retaining the core benefits. For years now, the best part of my day is strapping on an Apple Watch in the mornings while I walk the dogs, grab coffee, pick up groceries and ease into the day with light errands. All while listening to music and just enjoying the moment.
The idea is picking up steam. Last night, a friend asked me for tips on how to do the same.
First, reduce noise:
Disable most alerts in the Watch app, you can still see them on the phone later. The main one is to block any social media DM's.
Add a focus mode to block everything, like when SMS is too noisy. Also can swipe to mute.
Second, add utility:
Download music you love. Streaming's fine but offline playlists are even better.
The Wallet is what I use most, both for Apple Pay and also the Starbucks card.
Hope that helps! Anyone else have a similar routine?
There were some pretty huge errors that #Humane left in their #AiPin reveal video, thanks to Chat-GPT. Like major factual errors about the next eclipse and how much protein is in a handful of almonds.
The one thing that struck me in the #Humane#AiPin product launch showcase is that the founders asked two questions: next eclipse and proteins in almond. The answers given by the #AI#LLM to both questions were wrong. They didn't care to fact-check a pre-recorded video? The worrying part of the #AiPin user interface is that the user can't verify if the computer is making things up.
So basically Humane's AI pin is the combadge from Star Trek? Sure, it will take pictures and video, but there's no way to actually frame any of your shots. And it relies on "AI" as the primary interface, so good luck on getting useful or correct answers most of the time.
It's an interesting concept, but no one asked "is this useful in the real world?"
Watching the #Humane launch video for their #AiPin. Not sure how convinced I am by having to speak to it out loud, or have it speak to me out loud. I guess a lot relies on how well the promised "bubble of sound" actually works? https://hu.ma.ne/aipin/details
