I saw the Beeper Mini announcement. As someone who has never used imessage and doesn't see the value, what does paying $2/mo for it get me that regular messaging doesn't?
Feels like this whole problem of Blue bubble/Green bubble is so American? I don't know anywhere else in the world its such a big problem?
Sure people will tell me, I'm very wrong :)
@majorlinux Unfortunately, the problem with #Sunbird is that it does not have true #E2EE: they log into your Apple ID on a Mac Mini in a datacenter, and then decrypt and re-encrypt the messages on that Mac. The messages are encrypted in transit, but it is not end-to-end in any manner. This was confirmed in MKBHD's video.
This is kind of disappointing to me, because true E2E encryption is possible, I worked on my #pypush project which implements the #iMessage protocol from scratch (no Mac), #Beeper bought it so hopefully should be available in the future.
@jjtech My experience with #Beeper is the same with #Sunbird. I had a random #Mac associated with my #Apple ID. It initially kept me from using that advanced encryption Apple offered.
Okay I'm really starting to love #Beeper! I finally got Facebook hooked up to it, so I can get Messenger messages in it, and already have iMessage hooked into it. Also it does have sound effects, they're just not enabled. And the settings option is hidden in a menu button near your chats. Yeah it needs some accessibility work, but I think I'm really gonna get some use out of this.
#pypush now has a branch where it can register a phone number to your #Apple#iMessage account via a helper #Android app.
This means that you can send iMessages from your phone number (better than email for some reason) with #Beeper or #BlueBubbles, without owning an iPhone.
Honestly, I don't think there is a better way to read your morning news than in Links on a memory LCD. This is how the internet is meant to be consumed
Just got suspended by #Facebook after less than 24 hours of creating an account. Only reason could be, I said in my bio I won't be posting there as I now have the #Beeper app to handle messaging on my phone without the metadata tracking...
It doesn't pay being honest sometimes ;-) but no ways I'd actually install an app like WhatsApp or Facebook on my phone...
