It is with great sadness that I announce: all the bicycles in my building have been taken. Including my two beloved, wonderful, retro steel bikes. I’m in shock obviously but I also feel calm (not my first rodeo). I’m very glad I had the opportunity to build and ride such nice bikes. If you see a vintage Rivendell and a Soma MTB, please let me know.
"The priority should not be to replace every car with its electric equivalent but rather to rethink #mobility in general.
"Placing so much focus on the automobile and even now the electric automobile is not the way that we solve our mobility problems, but rather it's time to invest in #transit, in #cycling, in walkable cities, to get people out of #cars altogether," they said."
Hast du schon mal versucht eine längere Distanz mit dem Rad zu fahren? Was heißt "länger" für dich und was hält dich davon ab?
Future cargo trailer hauling MTB... if I can get it back up to speed. But now it has shiny stickers (but no tires... yet... since the online retailer I purchased the new tires from apparently sends their packages by mule train). #cycling#BikeTooter
We need at leasst 17 more people using the #BikeNite hashtag (on public posts) to have a shot of trending.
Why do I care? Because Mastodon isn't the greatest for discoverability. I think BikeNite is a cool community and I would like to see more cyclists able to find us and participate in this a/synchronous weekly structured chat. @mastobikes@fedibikes@bikenite#Cycling#BikeTooter#fahrrad
Success! Switch to a mountain bike for the cargo trailer was the correct move. More gears means moving a load uphill is now easy (albeit.... SLOW). Hauled some (full) plastic drawers one way, more (full) plastic drawers another way for a mile or so on hilly terrain, no problem. #BikeTooter#cycling
#BikeTooter achievement unlocked. This cyclist went to the market. This cyclist did not stay home. This cyclist bought arugula and butter. This cyclist put it on the new rack and pedaled (wee! wee! wee!) uphill all the way home.
Apparently my stolen Rivendell has been spotted at Laney flea market in Oakland for $600. I guess it’s a good thing that they know what it’s worth (since other nice bikes go for $50).
Between ‘law enforcement is useless’ and ‘it’s there’, I have no idea what I’m supposed to do.
#BikeTooter#Oakland can any east bay bike friends advise? (I know it’s probably just go there and bargain and pay up)
Question for the #BikeTooter community: I've been trying to switch from driving to bicycling, and keep wishing I had a rear view mirror (as a speeding SUV comes rushing past my left side...)... thoughts on mirrors for bicycles? Yay? Nay? If Yay, what kinds would you recommend?
I invite anyone who argues that #EBikes are overkill to come live my life for a week. And I'll go live your life, in your superfit body that never sweats, on your awesome infrastructure that accommodates you and your kids, hauling around your weightless groceries.
You can live in my wonky middle-aged body still inflamed from #COVID19, at the bottom of the hill my city is famous for, in heat and humidity, on roads that will get your kids killed if they're not strapped to you.
6 months ago when I had my beloved Rivendell bike stolen, everyone told me: it’ll turn up in a couple of months. I wanted to believe them but I wasn’t sure I did!
Few things in my favor: my Riv Road Standard was a custom frame in 1995, the size and color doesn’t really exist at all so it was very unique. If you see it, you know it’s my bike. So almost exactly 6 months to the day I got a Reddit message from someone saying they have my bike!
NEW PAPER from me and a wonderful team of collaborators: ✨A Street-Specific Analysis of Level of Traffic Stress Trends in Strava Bicycle Ridership and its Implications for Low-Stress Bicycling Routes in Toronto✨
Bring your bike on BART. However, many elevators in BART stations don’t work so I would hesitate to bring heavier bikes, e-bikes or loaded touring bikes I can’t carry.
Every other subway car has a bike area. This one is in one of the newer trains, which are much nicer.
OKAY. Stopping point on the Northshore Bike Map, connecting the latest Seattle and brand new Eastside map.
I've added everything I know and I've stumbled upon a bunch of things I didn't before. This has been educational.
I've also labelled a bunch of stuff, added replacement labels for certain attractions that had their labels obscured, and made a couple of corrections.
I'm not including the sidewalk/path hybrid along Ballinger because while sometimes it sure does feel like a path most of the time it's just "sidewalk."
DO YOU KNOW ROUTES I DON'T?
Tell me about them! But only if they're public. I've not included a couple of trails here because they're private.
Paramedic in the family kiboshed my usual bicycling route to the auto repair shop (the one with the bicycle lane), and told me to take the lesser traveled road WITHOUT bicycle lanes (due to slower traffic speeds...the bike lane route is 50mph limit but people frequently at 60mph+). Probably good advice. Hope the upgrade to separated lanes on that road will mitigate that issue somewhat. (although, no spindly traffic barrier will stop a car going 65mph, but it will reduce probability of sideswiping) #BikeTooter
🧵 A phenomenon keeps happening both online & in person that angers, saddens, & devalues me. So I'm attempting to explain why it has this effect & what I'd hope people would do instead.
When I arrived at UC Davis to prepare to start grad school in summer 2019, I found the first of many damaging ableisms - the cycle racks were not accessible to the types of cycles I ride. Yet I'd be cited & my bike impounded if I didn't park there. 1/? #Cycling#UCAccessNow#BikeTooter#Urbanism
