PSA: if you like calckey on Infosec.town, you may also like akkoma on Infosec.place. The interface on calckey is nicer, but there is a working search on akkoma.

I need you all to do me a favour and follow these steps:

  1. Visit this post: https://mastodon.social/@atomicpoet/110328640192551572

  2. Click the link shown I've shown in the red box (see screenshot)

  3. Tell me if the link goes to mastodon.social or venera.social

I want everyone to report what you see.

I. Opens a local profile

II. Opens the URL

I think it's safe to say that only Mastodon opens uses its local cache to open a remote profile. Other software, regardless if they have a local cache, opens the URL since it starts with https: and not a webfinger.

We have a few BookWyrm ( https://joinbookwyrm.com/ ) users on here, so there may be some interest, it may be worth seeing what already exists here in that area too.

Relatica, a Friendica iOS client made by @hankg, has made significant progress!

The UI is a lot smoother. The timeline looks great too.

This is still in beta, and not available on the App Store yet—but I’m excited about this!

One of the things that struck me exploring https://fedidb.org/ was just how low 's user counts are!

By total users, on par with and .

By MAU, less than , and hometown (and barely above akkoma).

I figured, seeing those, numbers, that they could probably do with some promotion or lift of some sort.

There exists the timeline T0, which is all of history if nobody messed it up with time travel. T1 is created when the "first" time traveler messes with it. Now an other traveler makes T2, trying to "set things right" as close to T0 as possible.

Pretty standard, yeah? But what I can't think of is a story where the native residents of T1 (who don't exist in T0) want to defend their home timeline from the T2 invader from the future, who wants to effectively unmake them.

Usually the story has the extras helping T2 "fix" things back to how they were "originally" but for them, T1 is the original.

    Any stories like that?

    youronlyone,

@pseudonym Hmm… there is something similar, but it isn't the main plot.

Check out 's series. I can't remember which book, but IIRC, there was one wherein natives of a particular timeline is actively defending their existence.

@Kaiteki @caos

Book 2: “Cat Burglar Black” by .

I saw some of his art online and thought it looked like “Invisible Hands” from Liquid Television, which I LOVED. Same artist! This didn’t have quite the same level of twisted, creepiness as that animated series, but I was so happy to find his work in comic form. There’s more too.

Someone stitched together all the “”. The voice acting is 🤌🏽 https://youtu.be/n5sP4yRb8Mw

Panel 1, someone in bed, their head covered in bandages, eyes staring and teeth bared. A weak whisper: "Come closer, Katherine. Let me see you..." Panel 2 a severe looking older woman with her hands around the shoulders of a tentative, white-haired teen: "Don't be shy. Say hello to your aunt."

I'm moving my 2023 book thread to , the Fediverse equivalent of Goodreads. Apparently, you can see/interact with Bookwyrm posts from Mastodon and vice versa but it took me awhile to figure out how:

I had to follow my Bookwyrm account from here + (optionally?) vice versa. Now I can Boost my Bookwyrm posts into Mastodon for you to see. Gonna try it in a few...

    @bookstodon

    ottsatwork,
    @ottsatwork@artsio.com avatar

Conclusion: at the moment, cross-posting from doesn't meet all of my needs (ALT text for book cover image, hashtags for Mastodon discoverability, no importing of full Bookwyrm post text, adding additional images since I read comics too, no tagging Mastodon accounts).

I'll keep posting separately on each platform since I want to contribute to both. So resuming my 2023 reading thread here. Eh heh heh. 😬

Reporting back on cross-posting from to Mastodon: it works! And without the expected delay of the post appearing in my Mastodon feed.

However, it doesn't pull the body of the post over, just the headline of my review (rating and image too). Which makes you have to click through, and removes discoverability since the hashtags are in the body post as well as my tag for the group. Also! No way to enter ALT text for the image. 😕
