😈 #DALL·E #IA
Well, you'd think #AI and #generativeAI like #DALL·E wouldn't be a problem for #fanfiction and #fanart, where you can't own the IP or sell it, but you'd be wrong. People posing as fan artists and LoRa's and artist style stealing are all in the article. The fandom is #MLP. There are links to other related issues.
On close examination #AI amounts to cultural starvation by #coprophagia
It ingests human shinola, and excretes AI #shit.
And when the AIs ingest AI shit, they excrete shitshit.
And when they ingest shitshit, they excrete shitshitshit.
You can only eat your own shit for so long before you starve.
Paint me a picture of that #DALL-E
Oopsie... Shane Jones, software engineering manager at Microsoft, has discovered vulnerabilities in #OpenAI’s#DALL-E 3 in early December, allowing users to bypass safety regulations. he sent his concerns in a letter addressed to US #Senators and Washington State Attorney General Bob #Ferguson.
Jones reported the #vulnerability to #Microsoft and was instructed to pass the issue directly to OpenAI, which he did. #privacy#malware#dataprotection#itsecurity
This was a #dall-e suggestion from #openai. I think it's perfect because it shows how the #AI is like the guards scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The prompt was (emphasis mine):
A 3D render of AN ASTRONAUT walking in a GREEN DESERT.
Read carefully. What they received was:
A 3D render of A GREEN ASTRONAUT walking in a NORMAL-COLOURED DESERT
That is not even close to what they asked for. Both the desert and the astronaut are the wrong colours, based on what they asked for, and colour was a really important part of the prompt.
Since their arrival, generative AI models and their trainers have demonstrated their ability to download any online content for model training. For content owners and creators, few tools can prevent their content from being fed into a generative AI model against their will. Opt-out lists have been disregarded by model trainers in the past, and can be easily ignored with zero consequences. They are unverifiable and unenforceable, and those who violate opt-out lists and do-not-scrape directives can not be identified with high confidence.
In an effort to address this power asymmetry, we have designed and implemented Nightshade, a tool that turns any image into a data sample that is unsuitable for model training. More precisely, Nightshade transforms images into "poison" samples, so that models training on them without consent will see their models learn unpredictable behaviors that deviate from expected norms, e.g. a prompt that asks for an image of a cow flying in space might instead get an image of a handbag floating in space.
Recently, discourse on #genAI and #copyright has shifted. It has become less about artistic creativity, individual authorship, and the appropriation of styles and more about corporate intellectual property. More precisely, these issues seem to be lumped together under the term »plagiarism.« As many have already noticed, when prompted for »famous video game characters,« recent versions of #Midjourney and #Dall-E routinely produce the likeness of a certain Italian plumber copyrighted by the Nintendo Corporation. Similarly, unspecified AI generated »famous superheroes« sport a well-known logo on their chest.
Of course, this suggests that copyrighted material has been used en masse to train these models. Still, I'm not sure we should call this »plagiarism.« While copyright infringement is a matter for the courts to decide, talk of #plagiarism suggests a moral dimension beyond purely legal issues. Plagiarism means passing off someone else's creative work as your own. But no one would ever think I invented Super Mario or Superman. When Midjourney reproduces these characters, just as it reproduces famous corporate logos, what's at stake is not art or authorship but brand management.

Having some fun with #AI image generation this morning. Bing Image Creator gave me this with the prompt "A Sunday morning picture celebrating the Minnesota Twins" I'll take it! #MinnesotaTwins#MLB#Bing#Dall-e @baseball#baseball
Corporate vs Local
Ah, the power of local models. Would DALL-E produce a better version? Probably. If it would produce one at all, that is....
