Whenever I report to some project that their client doesn't work with SSL client certificates (often behind a reverse-proxy), tons of users educate me that it works fine with HTTPS/SSL/TLS certificates.
"No, it supports all scenarios, even behind a reverse proxy."
Look, if you reply to someone using a very specific technical term that seems unfamiliar, look it up before you tell them they're wrong maybe?
For example, Chrome, Home Assistant and Nextcloud can all do it, but it is not generally supported by everything that can do HTTPS. Apparently the libraries suck.
Which is really annoying, because I really want that additional layer of security before exposing a service on the Internet.
@hannesstein@jwildeboer Aim for a compromise: Use #Spotify to disover (some) new music, buy music on #Bandcamp fridays and physical media to support the artists. Even though I enjoy the convenience of streaming services I try to keep my favorite music stored free of DRM. Still using apps such as #Auxio on my #Android phone to play music. Setting up #Jellyfin on my new home is next, so I can stream all my stored music to any device.
It's been two months since I got my #RaspberryPi and I won't lie, everything is still so exciting. I get so happy when I do stupid little things like upgrade my #Zigbee dongle without everything breaking. Honestly, #SelfHosting is a beautiful world. Though it's all down to how kind and helpful everyone is. I'm super grateful for the tremendous communities behind #HomeAssistant, #Docker, #JellyFin, #Navidrome, #Immich and obviously #Mastodon and #Lemmy.
And here we have #Jellyfin transcoding Live TV for 3 days straight, filling up my transcode SSD, even though nobody was actually watching anything and nothing showed up on the Dashboard..
Today I added my #nextcloud photo upload folder to my #jellyfin install. I am truely impressed by how fast it load’s everything :-)
Yet another day I do not miss iCloud Photos
I've just published the roadmap project for the Jellyfin Android TV app! It will slowly get bigger over time while I figure out how exactly I want it to be organized.
The priority for now is to keep working on better video support though!
#Kubernetes/#K8S Q: I've been having an issue all this while I haven't quite been able to tackle. How do I properly mount a #Samba/#SMB/#CIFS share in a #Docker container on Kubernetes?
I definitely don't want a method that does any "pass through" outside of the container such as mounting said share on the Kubernetes node then passing it to the container, since that seems quite hacky and the deployment/pod could easily be reassigned to a different node.
Update: I've found #csi-driver-smb which seems to be perfect for my needs, and even a video of someone deploying it to their cluster for #Jellyfin.
I've deployed it successfully to my #Kubernetes cluster pretty easily, and am attempting to achieve the same thing but on #Plex rather than Jellyfin. Ran into another obstacle tho, while it seems that my #TrueNAS#SMB share is mounted to the container (shows up in df -h), my root user in the container could not ls the mount point (i.e. /mnt/smb), it'd just return the Permission denied error. Weird thing is the root user could cd into the mount point and its existing subdirectories, but not ls them or write any files to them. I could cat files inside it though, funnily enough.
the PV for said PVC has mounting options included in csi-driver-smb's example including dir_mode=0777, and file_mode=0777, with minor changes such as uid=1001 and gid=1001 I've updated them to 0, which is the uid and gid of the root user. I've even tried updating them to 1000 which is the id of the user plex, but still with the same results.
Anyone have any clue why I'm getting the permission denied error?
Stupid #linux question: I need to find a way to ensure that a network share is mounted at ALL times, even after a reboot. Why. My #jellyfin server loves to punish me and wipe my libraries because specific mounts are not mounted. A simple "sudo mount -a" and a Scan All Libraries fixes the problem but it's still annoying when I install updates and reboot.
I kind of love that #Jellyfin just has an instance running, linked to from their home page, that you can just log into (using 'demo' with no password), to try it out and see it working.
I have a TCL tv with (with google smart TV software) and have been ingesting TV shows, games, and movies primarily from an xbox using various paid streaming apps for like 15 years. As streaming costs go up I’ve wanted to set up a media server compatible with playing stuff from the xbox and have had some friends suggest Plex so...
Sick of the #streaming sites raising prices and adding... ads? Annoyed that #spotify doesn't pay the artists you listen to?
Now there is #Jellyfin - a #free and #openSource media server that allows you to turn your personal movie, TV show and music collection into an #adFree available-anywhere streaming service!
It works on the web, as well as having official apps for #androidTV, #roku, #fireTV, etc.
Do I have 4 different browser running at the same time? Why yes I do. Firefox as a personal main, Safari for work, Edge for study (Azure certs), and I'm testing out Arc. I also bring up Vivaldi from time to time.
@ladyhope I store TV shows, movies, games, books and software, so I need the space. We are daily #jellyfin users and I’m a fan of having physical and digital copies of media I enjoy.
#apple Vision Pro came out today. I'm excited to eventually have something similar to this, specifically for media consumption. I want to have a virtual theater with a massive "screen", able to block out the world, put in AirPods, and enjoy some #jellyfin or #youtube. Don't really care about using my laptop screen virtually, nor am I worried about taking video or how my eyes look to others in the room. Give me just something around $500 that I can consume media and I'll buy into it.
I haven't talked about #projectone in a while, as things have become pretty busy for me. Feeling good about it in the current state as a v1.0. I'm pivoting from code over into the physical enclosure.
One thing to reflect on is that I honestly wish that I would have gone with a x86-64 mini PC over the Pi. The Pi is capable, but for the same cost, I could have went with a known working arch. and more "tried and true" variation of OS, #python and libraries. Bad luck with ARM leaves a bad taste
@Dave42W It's essentially an offline-first TV station you can take on the go. All media is programmed into TV channels, some with commercials, and you can surf with a TV remote! We got tired of going on a trip with poor Internet service and couldn't access #jellyfin at home, so I made something we can take along with us so we will have something to watch.
#Help me Fediverse; you’re my only hope. Trying to archive DVD using #Handbrake for use on #Jellyfin. Using standard Fast 1080p30 but subtitles not appearing. Only need the subtitles where audio is non-English. The “Foreign Audio Scan” option was included in Subtitles tab. Container is MP4. What am I missing?
Ideas for setting up a media server compatible with xbox viewing?
