Thinking about what to include in #qxmoji v0.5. Many questions in mind...
I'll definitely "outscope" #l10n. Would be nice, but would also mean to import localized emoji names somehow (and, where to find them? 🤔)
For now:
🔹Unify persisting settings. history and window size are persisted on exit, wait time and display scale on every change. Not sure which one is the "better" approach...
🔹Should it be "single instance"? Should it offer an option for a "tray icon"?
🔹Add an "About dialog". Cause that's what you always do. 🙈
🔹Maybe find a way to speed up initial creation of the Emoji buttons?
🔹Anything else ...❓
I think the GOV.UK Design System is very close to this. Widely tested, accessible, tech-agnostic, just needs to be more theme-able (edit - including internationalisation, thanks @whitingx )
@joelanman - The mentions I've seen in discussions relating to #Internationalisation (#i18n) and #Localisation (#l10n) seem more focused on support for language, RtL typography, etc. over the culture¹ and tradition² of Design that has already been impacted by regions more dominant and more promoted as standard bearers of Design.
How much of US/EU design thinking and theory might be imposed on any global design system and how can this inherent bias be mitigated. 🤔
I'm publishing a minor translation update for Fretboard on Flathub right now. Thanks to @bittin, @sabriunal and @flipflop97 for being awesome people and making the GNOME ecosystem more convenient and accessible for speakers of their respective languages!
Speaking of translations, here's something I've been wondering about:
Fellow non-native English speakers, do you mostly use your digital devices in one of your native languages? Explanations / thoughts / boosts welcome :)
do you think is a good idea to use some kind of automatic machine #translation system in #Transifex? (may be AI, IDK)
I wish you well in the future. I'll no longer contribute to your software after all these years. I can affort to keep it up to date, but what I will not do is also train your/transifex AI system proof reading all its mess. Thank you. Bye.
When you add a newline character in code the Xcode 15 String Catalog uses it to format the localization that it shows you. You don't actually "see" the newline character like you do in code.
When you add a translation via the String Catalog that matches it a diff verifies that the newline is present.
In just under an hour our monthly #CommunityCall will focus on translations and translators! What are the top and most exotic languages that our app is used in? How can we improve the process & quality? Who are the (other) folks making our software accessible to non-English speakers?
