This delightful piece comes from the Villa Fortunatus, near modern Fraga (ancient Hispania). Thought to be part of a calendar series, a deer appears to leap away from an altar adorned with branches and possible a flame(?)
For today's #MosaicMonday a hilarious #Roman mosaic depicting a boisterous #dog knocking over a basket and pulling out the contents. Life without #dogs is possible but pointless!

The so-called ‘Gypsy Girl Mosaic’ was discovered in Zeugma. The detailed level of this portrait is conveyed through the subtle colour shifts in the individual pieces. The artist was a master mosaicist.

Gone fishing! It seems like the sea is getting rough as you look from left to right. The array of sea creatures and bird life suggests a landscape bursting with life.
