Ok, the way the search/launcher menu on #KDE#Plasma highlights an item in random as you're typing a search query (instead of highlighting the top item) so that it often opens a random file instead of the most likely match drives me NUTS.
I should just use #KRunner more often, as it doesn't seem to have that quirk.
@RL_Dane Plasma is the absolutely most incredible mind blowing awesome amazing advanced piece of software to ever have such prevalent and bizarre bugs imo XD
And thus, it is my daily driver DE
@RL_Dane Ehhh even on Plasma 6 I find that if I search "Discord" and press enter too quickly, it'll launch "Discover" instead. It gets me almost every single time 🙃 but I think that's more of a case of me not being patient enough, it does properly highlight Discord after half a second when it recalculates.
:kde: 🎤 #KDEexpress cumple con periodicidad mensual recopilando novedades de la comunidad #KDE y el Software Libre en general. De la mano de @DavidMarzalC y gracias a @raivenra por su edición.
@thelinuxcast People have become way too sensitive. I think the whole "hide, it's a virus" thing didn't help. But mostly I think it's the whole "device" culture. I miss the days of actual human interaction. In the "good ole days" we were told to avoid (dated) e-mail because it can be read in a variety of ways. So, face to face was always encouraged to avoid misunderstandings.
@thelinuxcast As a longtime KDE user I found your remarks well balanced and to the point. Not just leafing through those menus and repeating what we all can read, like most distro reviews. As for tiling: i couldn't care less, I'll head over to Hypr or dwm or so for that. And to me the settings menu is a hot mess, brain muscle 😄 Good thing search has improved a lot. These two items just to show we can't agree on all things 🤣 thnx Matt, keep them coming!
After digging around the net around the Plasma 6 incident, I'm quite thinking of "how about asking user which to install in a global themes?" and put anything related to code disabled by default and a little warning if they want it :roxasthinking:
WTF @kde? Who translated the name of the months in Persian calendar?! They're correct in English, but 6 out of 12 of them are wrong in Persian! #KDE#Plasma6
Or a more accurate headline would be: "Themes developed for Plasma 6...".
These are not themes put out by the Plasma project as you are implying. They are not even created by Plasma developers, or even remotely recommended by KDE.
These are themes developed by third parties and users install and run them at their own risk.
Well. Seems I have to reinstall #OpenSUSE#Tumbleweed. I tried restoring as many of my custom #KDE theme settings as I could remember before retrying to upgrade to #Plasma6. It didn't help. Colors being screwed I get, but why are so many things are straight up missing. Volume widget? BT widget? Whole sections in the Plasma Settings are just gone. ???
@amadeus Exactly! Things went totally sideways though and became much worse lol, now the system won't boot at all. 😅 But this gives me the opportunity to learn Linux boot systems on a deeper level than I ever have before. I have to figure out what's wrong and learn how to fix it manually (no tools thus far has fixed it). And that's a great way to really learn something. 🤓
@macberg I often felt the same way. If you don't get annoyed and have the opportunity to take a close look at things, you have a lot of potential to learn. Good luck! 🤞
I finally budged and used pmbootstrap to make my own customization of @postmarketOS . The experience was not so smooth as the documentation was not specific enough and scattered, but I finally did it 🎉 with PmOS edge channel (rolling release) and #KDE#Plasma6 .
I should give props to both @postmarketOS and @kde mobile folks for such gorgeous view and clean experience. It is astonishingly beautiful, and many Plasma5 issues are fully solved!
You shouldn't have to modify the device owners in order to improve install docs, but I definitely understand how the wiki "format" is less than ideal for some (myself included!)
What would be your preferred way to contribute doc changes to pmOS?
@craftyguy
True, I don't "need" to, but it is the first section needed to be modified based on the displayed order, and also I literally own the device and I spent hours to get the PmOS installed on it, so why shouldn't I add myself the list?
I don't know what is ideal, maybe a simple markdown file? I don't know.
The truth is wiki is old-school and also horrendously ugly, and most importantly and ironically, this wiki is not mobile-friendly. This is honestly bad.
