I sorta want to make a 60fps version, maybe at half speed. But that would mean 4x the frames as this one, and I'm not ready to devote 6 hours of render time to this.
@SFRuminations I’ve always wanted a good rendering of what it would be like to stand on #LarryNiven’s #ringworld’s surface. No artist’s impression or 3D #render I have been able to find has given me the experience I want; the ones that try to be physically accurate always seem to be rendered from a few thousand k’s above the surface. I want ground level, both in a lower flat-ish area and from a normal mountain. I want to see the horizon tilting up in the spinward and, er, widdershins directions, and the wall mountains to the sides. I want to see this from near the middle and nearer an edge. Surely these days this is possible!
Playing with the water transparency revealed a bug in the CPU rendering of surfaces inside transparent materials.
Fixed in #Avoyd beta 0.21.0.871 https://www.enkisoftware.com/products
Thanks everyone for your feedback. Most answers congregated around an Absorption Length = 8 so we'll change the default Minecraft water and flowing_water to that in the next full release of Avoyd.
I did this while I was breaking apart the lines in the original material into their own segment of the shader, so I could enable/disable them however I like.
Took a break from improvements to the GPU path tracer to test making a stylized volcanic eruption using the Minecraft map the Continent of Lisrina by Dannypan.
