Today, May 1, would have been the end of Jack Torrance's tenure as winter caretaker for the Overlook Hotel (The Shining, 1980)

Happy Wednesday. We're halfway there...

These three look like they're off to have an exciting new adventure! Hope they have a wonderful time spending time with one another and taking a break from the rest of the world! 🤔😜

The best thing about how zoom makes your own camera a mirror image is it turns my Redrum mug into a Murder mug, but only for me.

In 1966, Stanley Kubrick expressed a desire to make the world's scariest movie. “Later,” Kubrick’s wife Christiane said, “he decided he was going to make a horror film so scary that he would advertise it by saying, ‘You can get your money back if you can sit all the way through.’" In this extract from their book, "Kubrick: An Odyssey," excerpted in LitHub, Robert P. Kolker and Nathan Abrams tell the story of his search for a horror tale to tell, and how he found "The Shining."

1/29/24 — Open 6-9p. Mask recommended. No open drinks, please.

What if "The Shining" is s book about shadow puppets? One's inner light illuminating the evil in another. The clarity of youthful innocence versus the corrupting cynicism of adulthood?

Any genre-lit fans out there with thoughts on this idea?

I recently re-watched and wondered why I liked it so much in the first place… is this just bound to happen with all the movies I watched as a child / teenager? There is not much beyond the nostalgia? Please prevent me from re-watching then!

(The good thing is it doesn’t work with games: started replaying and it’s as satisfying as it ever was)

Going to be live-drawing the Ito Twins as the Shobijjn during tomorrow's Monsterdon presentation of Mothra (1961). Watch and toot along during the movie while I post progress shots and riff along with the rest of the Monster-heads. The show starts at 9 PM EST!

I'd like to interrupt my typical irregular posting to say point-blank that if you believe the "Wendy Theory" about The Shining, you need to fuck off until you grow a better bullshit detector.

The evidence isn't there, and requires a bunch of extracurricular assumptions that don't work unless you ignore various interviews with Kubrick and production crew.

Like hoolee shit, the "Wendy Theory" is underpinned with bad logic jumps, and some blatant unchecked misogynistic stereotyping.

honestly, i love this bathroom so much that i'd probably just let her stay - as long as she tidied up & didn't bogart the bath.

Now, that's a little bit scary: yesterday I setup on my PC and lacking of possibilities I'd the journal file to my phone where I'd alter the text directly (and inconveniently).
I noted to myself to write a simple expense adding app - should I ever be able to code.
Today there is a new app in : NanoLedger

On the theme of Spooktober: Does anyone else ever feel like is less a mysterious labyrinth of a film and more technically messed up because couldn’t be arsed with total quality control and just mixed up ideas from different versions he was planning?
