Yesterday, Costello behaved so atrociously on the witness stand that Juan Merchan cleared the courtroom to admonish him & the defense attorneys. Costello is due back on the stand
U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls investigated over allegations he used campaign money to pay rent to his own company
The Richmond Republican faces allegations of improperly using campaign funds for his own gain, according to an Office of Congressional Ethics report made public Friday.
"Freedom. Prosperity. Strength. That's what America stood for under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump -- the best president of my lifetime. [🤣] That's why I'm introducing legislation to rename Dulles as the Donald J. Trump International Airport," Rep #GuyReschenthaler said on X.
The bill, was referred to the #House Transportation & Infrastructure Cmte for consideration.
It's not yet clear how the bill will fare in the #GOP-controlled House, tho it's likely to be DOA in the Democrat-controlled #Senate -- meaning it would not become #law.
#House & #Senate Republicans have denigrated fellow lawmakers, #Biden admin officials & witnesses in #racist ways, both in casual comments & in official settings.
When Rep #MarjorieTaylorGreene (R-GA) stood on the #House floor this month to announce her proposal to censure the only #Somali-born member of #Congress, she said she was seeking punishment for “Representative #IlhanOmar of Somalia — I mean Minnesota.”
Earlier that same wk, Rep #TroyNehls (R-TX) called the #Black husband of another woman of color, Rep #CoriBush (D-MO) a “thug.” He then said Ms. Bush, who is also Black, had received so many death threats because she was “so loud all the time.”
#GOP says no need for new #immigration laws. That’s not what it used to say.
#Republicans are sandwiched between what many of their #Senate GOP colleagues say is a critical opportunity to pass #conservative#border#legislation & the #political wishes of a former president who seems to view the crisis as a boon to his 2024 campaign.
& increasingly, they’ve landed on a talking point: We don’t really even need new #laws.
•“The idea that you need #Congress to do something to secure the southern #border is just all horse manure,” Rep #TroyNehls (R) added Tues.
This argument would have been news to some of these same #Republicans just a few years or even months ago. Many saw a border “crisis” even under #Trump’s leadership — & the need for laws to address it. #law#immigration#Politics#GOP#exploitation
The #DOJ is investigating whether Rep #CoriBush (D-MO) misused campaign funds for her own personal #security, the progressive lawmaker confirmed in a statement Tues.
“As a rank-and-file member of #Congress I am not entitled to personal protection by the #House, & instead have used campaign funds as permissible to retain security services. I have not used any federal tax dollars for personal security services.”
Not to mention, Rep #CoriBush as well as the other members of #TheSquad conduct themselves far more professionally & respectfully than jerks like #TroyNehls, they have to, they live in a world w/o #WhiteMalePrivilege.
Unreal.
(I have another recent thread where Nehls says unbelievably disrespectful things of the sitting President.)
(argh that Nehls interview was just disgusting)
(But reality check: #MikeJohnson said he doesn’t want to pass #BorderLegislation because he doesn’t want the Biden admin to be able to take credit for it & because he wants to keep the issue alive for the 2024 #election.)
(In)…”the words of Rep #TroyNehls (R)…during the field trip: ‘I’m not willing to do too damn much right now to help a #Democrat & to help Joe #Biden’s approval rating.’ IOW, a deal that #Democrats can accept, even a…restrictionist #border policy, is a deal #HouseRepublicans are unwilling to contemplate. In order to keep the border issue alive in 2024, they’d rather blow up #Senate negotiations. They see this as a win…, bc it keeps #immigration & the general aura of crisis on the front pages.”
Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) walked out of the Republican conference meeting this afternoon saying no progress had been made on naming a speaker, the HuffPost reports.
Said Nehls: “We are a broken conference.”
Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) likened the situation to a football team calling a play in the huddle, lining up in formation, and then never snapping the ball because nobody listened to the quarterback: “This is the worst team I’ve ever been on.”
