SUSHI GIRL

Uneven but entertainingly lurid crime movie that fulfills the Luke Skywalker/Candyman team up you spent years wishing for.
Decent performances cover up a derivative story. Gratuitous gore and nudity also cover up most of its flaws.
Nothing special but you never feel your time is wasted.
Watch even if you're allergic to seafood.

DAWN OF THE DEAD

An excellent remake of the George Romero classic. My Favorite Zack Snyder movie. James Gunn's screenplay mines every ounce of terror from the high-concept premise
You may now have a moment to Google what a "Mall" is.
That'll teach you to give birth right next to a Hot Dog on a Stick.

Alfred Hitchcock's second to the last film and he don't give an f...
Gratuitous nudity and violence, Hitch is letting it all hang out.
Despite knowing the killer early, there's still a solid amount of suspense through most of the running time.
There's mordant dark humor peppered throughout, and the jokes land despite yourself.
If you haven't seen it in a while, there's a lot that still holds up. And the stuff that doesn't (from a 70s point of view) is unintentionally funny.
Lovely! Lovely! Lovely!
Bob's your uncle?
The title itself feels pretty lazy though.

THE BLOB

This B-movie classic shows us the dangers of being attacked by the world's largest serving of cherry pie filling.
There's nothing particularly scary about any of this, though you can't help but smile at everything you see on screen.
Movies were 80 cents a ticket. Wow.
This is the whitest movie town I have ever seen. I thought I saw a black person during the scene where everyone runs out of the theater but I couldn't be sure. Maybe that was Mayor Goldie Wilson's aunt or something.
Watch it...if you dare.

OPERATION FORTUNE

Guy Ritchie's Asteroid City.

Feels like the first draft of every Ritchie ever made, but it's still entertaining on its own terms thanks to a wonderful comic performance by Josh Hartnett.
Derivative from the first frame to the last, but you're not looking for originality when you watch a Guy Ritchie movie.
Jason Statham cutting and pasting every performance he's ever given.
Aubrey Plaza not even bothering with a character and the movie is better for it.
If you've seen any Ritchie movie, you've already seen this.
Cary Elwes, along with MI:7 stars in in unnecessarily long title.

THE TO-DO LIST

Solid raunchy in which everyone looks 5 years older than the age they're playing.
There times in which it feels to tame considering its premise, but Aubrey Plaza keeps it consistently funny because she's Aubrey Plaza.
You get the feeling there's a better unhinged version somewhere but had to be tamped down to make it palatable for a mainstream audience.

THE NUN II

From Michael Chaves, director of the worst entry in the ConjurVerse (The Curse of La Llorona).
Thanks to The Nun II he’s now the director of the worst and second worst entry in the ConjurVerse. Yay?
The has no idea what to do with its titular character as Valak is shoehorned into the same repetitive scare just to wake the audience up from really dark and droning dialogue scenes.
If you want actual frights that don’t feel like an afterthought, this Nun has next to none.

#Watching THE HOST

Bong Joon Ho's monster movie based on a true story shows the true dangers of owning a food stand so near to the water.
Funny and thrilling, it's everything you'd ever want from a Korean monster #movie and even some things you don't like smarmy white people doing nefarious things.
One of the best #movies of the aughties and as a professional archer*, I'm glad to see my sport represented.
Host a watch party and see this again and make the mhost of your time alone. Maybe prepare yourself some thost.

CANDY CANE LANE

Requisite Eddie Murphy family : Christmas Edition.
With a two hour running time, it tests your patience with subplots that should have been jettisoned and sequences that should have been trimmed but then you remember you're watching a Christmas movie and you don't care about things like that but at least it's not one of those Stepford White People Hallmark .
From the director of Boomerang.

THE CROSSING GUARD

Jack Nicholson holds the screen well enough in Sean Penn's debut as a writer director.
It's a piece of depression porn that contains all the self indulgent beats and hokey dialogue you might expect from a first timer (so much introspection!).

#Watching NEXT

Sci-fi "Thriller" with cheap special effects show you that the filmmakers gave up spending money because they knew what garbage they had on their hands.
Feel bad for Julianne Moore. I asked her why she did this movie and she just started crying.

The 1 star is just because I feel sorry for it.

#Watching MISSION IMPOSSIBLE GHOST PROTOCOL

Some of the best set pieces in the Mi franchise. That Mumbai skyscraper climb is one of the best silent action scenes since the one in Mute Man Climbs The Building.
Tom Cruise only screamed profanities at the underage children working on the film because they would faint from exhaustion after only working 15 hours a day.

#Watching ALEX & EMMA

Rob Reiner's limp #romcom wastes Kate Hudson and Luke Wilson as they generate no sparks.
Takes so long for the story to begin, but there's no actual humor to keep the scenes afloat and your attention from wavering.
At least it's not as bad as North. Makes you want to read a book which isn't a bad thing in itself if it gets you to avoid this.

#Watching FULLTIME KILLER

Generically fun hitman #movie that does nothing to advance the genre but is a sufficient enough diversion from your parents telling you that you're adopted even though you're white and your adopted parents are black and Asian.
You see most of what's coming but the capably directed action sequences keep you from boredom.
If you're a part time killer it may not make you want to go fulltime.

Adequate family entertainment that highlights the danger of stepping out of your comfort zone.
I feel kinda bad watching a about animated ducks that I'm hungry for real ducks but I'm sure the feeling will pass.
Lessons will be learned. Stars will make money doing voices in studios wearing their pajamas or nothing at all (Eg. Tom Hanks in those Toy Story movies).

Watched “Love at First Sight” on Netflix tonight. Very simple and sweet - a nice cozy date movie for a cold Friday night 🤗

Made us reflect a bit on when we first met. This is probably the earliest photo we have of us from almost 10 years ago. Our boss took it before we had told anyone we were dating. Maybe she had a hunch? ❤️❤️❤️

#Watching LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL

The worst part of Late Night with the Devil happens during the overly long and overly revealing prologue. You're force fed all you need to know and can glean almost every twist. It should have cut it by half and lost none of its power.
Aside from that exposition explosion, Late Night is a solid slow burn and period purists will shoot their polyester suit over all the 70s details.
