Of course predicted LLM-based pig butchering scams 15 years ago https://xkcd.com/632/

From a quick search, a few people (including Randall himself) put up VK Couples Testing sites after the comic, but they don't load anymore. Thinking we need to bring this idea back.

THANK YOU!! this is one of the two major traffic frustrations I have living in Massachusetts where everyone thinks they are being helpful and friendly but are actually slowing things down by trying to do this ALL. THE. TIME.

Automation

title="'Automating' comes from the roots 'auto-' meaning 'self-', and 'mating', meaning 'screwing'."

On , a few months ago, author Randall Munroe wrote a long story about the "Case of the Missing Hit", a song with the chorus "" with specific lyrics and style aspects, which other people seem to have also heard - yet the song doesn't seem to exist.

Context: "The Incredible Machine" was one of the greatest games ever made.
(This is a statement of facts and not subject to discussion.)

Now has made something almost as fun that runs in a tab of your browser: https://xkcd.com/2916

I made the mistake of commenting on a public news post over on CorporateBook about our record high temperatures, saying “if only we’d listened to climate scientists 50 years ago…” and all the crazies had to reply with the usual propaganda.

Yes, climate change has occurred naturally before. But never at the rate we’ve seen the last few decades.

I really should stop looking over there.

The original maintainer of (Lasse) just fixed another affected piece of code that sabotaged library sandboxing and was, of course, also introduced by the malicious contributor Jia Tan.

This poor unpaid Fossdev probably has a ton of companies knocking on his door right now.

By the way, as I have seen and heared about incredibly ignorant hot takes on :

Educate yourself on blame-free culture.

What has happened is not the fault of a maintainer and the project being infected is not bad because of the backdoor.

This is the companies and the foss community failing to properly support maintainers critical to their infrastructure.

perfectly summed this situation up years ago: https://xkcd.com/2347/
