We're in Le Havre today, resting our feet in a craft ale bar (surprise!) after walking around for several hours with no firm plans. We've seen some very nice sights and great architecture but none nicer than the Église Saint-Joseph designed by the mentor of Le Corbusier, Auguste Perret. It is absolutely incredible and really difficult to describe, sorry.
Hercules was the brand of graphics card for the IBM PC that was widely used in the 1980s.
It could do two colours - black and whatever colour the monitor was. For my first year I had a green monitor and then an amber one for the next two years.
I took a 1970s #nikon lens to this #brutalist#swimmingpool in #toronto's Woodbine Beach. It's a masterpiece of #concrete design, but has clearly seen better days - like when I was a child petrified to jump off the 10 meter diving board.
For #FensterFreitag here's a view through the centre of the control tower of the Agua Clara locks on the Atlantic side of the Panama Canal, taken a couple of weeks ago. The modern control tower itself is built with an eye for brutalism so it immediately appealed to me, and I was very pleased when we cruised through the lock to catch this view of it from our balcony.
Just spotted this morning. Mid-20th C Swiss architects are hilarious.
Villagers: "Our ancient Alpine village hasn't changed in centuries. Many of the 14th century timber houses are still standing and we'd like a church that complements the surroundings"
Architects: "Here you go"
Villagers: "No, that's not..."

Fans of #brutalist#architecture might want to have a nose at this very short article (promotion for a book) with a few shots of Italian #brutalism to enjoy. There's mention of Casa del Portuale in Naples (and a photo of its near-twin by Rossi in the article) which we've seen up close a couple of times now when travelling. Fabulous, emotion-evoking style.
