In a small celebration of Nile Rodgers' Polar Prize award today, I urge you to take five minutes to listen to this intense and hauntingly beautiful 2018 version of "I Want Your Love" with Chic and Lady Gaga on vocals.
"Let's Dance" is a song by the English singer-songwriter #DavidBowie, originally included as the title track of his 1983 album of the same name. Co-produced by #NileRodgers of #Chic, it was recorded in late 1982 at the #PowerStation in New York City. With the assistance of engineer #BobClearmountain, Rodgers transformed the song from its #folkRock origins to a #dance number through studio effects and new musicians Bowie had yet to work with. https://youtu.be/J0HD76SZH54
A wonderful live set by an artist justly called a legend. I didn't know how much I needed this until it showed up in my feed and promptly hopped onto my Mental Soundtrack. 💖
There is a false confidence, and a true one. False confidence involves pretending to be who you are not, and acting as if you know things you don't know. Real confidence comes from unabashedly being yourself.
Everywhere you go in #japan there are signs of economic decay, a time when things used to be different, and I imagine better. Stores, houses, pachinko parlors that have been closed and/or abandoned, often decades ago. I have a thing for this #dilapidated#storefront#chic. Here is an example from #nagareyama in #chiba.
#FirstLastEverything meets "Disco's greatest band", according to the #Chic website. Nile Rodgers played guitar, Bernard Edwards on bass, Tony Thompson drummed, singers included Luther Vandross, Jocelyn Brown, Norma Jean Wright, and many more.
Soul and funk incarnate, Chic moved with the times, stayed ahead of fashion, chortled at homages from Queen and Steps. Here's a performance from Top Pop in spring 1978. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbwFZMi8YhE
