The idea of a Credit Card is the perfect example of how much the US loves adding completely unnecessary steps to a process.
Debit card: pay a bill by transferring money from your bank account to the person’s account - 1 step
Credit card: pay a bill by using credit from a company, waiting from them to actually transfer the money, transferring money from your bank account, waiting for that to actually proceed otherwise you have no more “credit” in your credit card - 4 steps.
Also, never go below your available credit otherwise you’ll have to pay horrible interest!
Other examples: American taxes, American healthcare, American pension, American voting system,…
Very excited to announce that Hako is out on the App Store!
Hako is a dead-simple app that makes it really easy to see your best credit cards for every spending category. There are similar apps out there, but they were all too complicated for me.
Would love for you to check it out, let me know what you think, and leave a review if you like it!
I canceled #lastpass premium years ago (while they were part of #logmein), then they spun off or something and guess what - my premium subscription was reinstated 😡
I've successfully had the charges refunded by my CC at least 2 years now and the charge appeared again for this year.
I signed into LastPass and sure enough, a premium subscription was again associated with my account. I canceled it - again.
Did LastPass send me a cancellation confirmation email? No. Is there a way for me to
Am I going to try and get a refund of premium this year? No. Does that mean I'm acknowledging that I made the purchase? Hell no. It's simply that #lastpass makes it a real pain to get a refund from them and the #creditcard companies don't make it much easier. I'd spend more "money" in time than I'd get back from disputing.
But...anyone know a good class action #lawyer if this happens next year? 🤬
International Card Services, by far the largest Credit Card issuer in the country, is stopping with giving credit; meaning you can only get a card that you pay back via your bank immediately.
This might be good for people that can't manage finances well, but it does make me question what the heck the added benefit of an ICS Visa or Mastercard actually is now.
They charge a yearly fee, for... not exactly sure what their sales pitch is for what is offers more than a bank's card.
They would also be introducing an open payment system for all rail services by the 4th quarter in 2025.
Prasarana also clarified that My50 travel pass, which is only available to #Malaysian, can be purchased at all rail #stations using #cash or #QRPay, or at key #bus hubs using cash.
About a third of #Ontario public hospitals have unused operating capacity, meanwhile the Ford government is forging ahead to create a duplicate private surgical clinic system that will compete for qualified staff and thereby worsen wait times across the province.
I know it's been a minute since I've had to apply for a credit card but did I fall into a coma since I did? Just got junk mail offering 31.24% APR that had a $39 ANNUAL FEE 😱 😳 ??? It also bragged that it at least doesn't have a processing fee! Since when has that been a thing???
I'm clearing out some old stuff before winter. My kids said, "Don't use #Craigslist. Nobody uses that any more."
But last week I quickly sold a car, two snowmobiles and a trailer on Craigslist.
I like the more anon feel of it, unlike FB marketplace.
Someone attempted to get my #creditcard and personal info by asking for a cheap #Carfax report from a #scam website, but other than that, Craigslist still works. Just be careful.
An #Ottawa doctor's office is asking for donations because "OHIP funding is not sufficient for clinic operations. The funds collected go towards clinic operations such as nursing wages and overhead costs."
"In less than one year, #Ontario has become one of the leading jurisdictions in #Canada at providing healthcare services through 3rd party for-profit investor-owned shareholder pharmacies"
"Practising medicine is not "an assessment" It is a history, physical exam, differential diagnosis, testing where needed, plan for follow-up & documentation accessible to others.
Ontario could support publicly funded primary care, but it chooses for-profit corporate earnings"
"Historically in Ontario the conflict-of-interest between diagnosing and selling [medication] was respected."
No more.
"The #DougFord government simply favours the private wealth of the few instead of the health of the many with the persistent corporatization of healthcare."
See Tickets, owned by Vivendi Ticketing, disclosed a data breach for the second time in the past 12 months. Hackers inserted malicious code into its checkout pages and were able to access debit/credit card numbers along with password, pin, security codes for more than 320,000 customers
American Express (credit cards) can be a little annoying when used online.
The card technically has two (2) "security codes." The normal three-digit code in the back and the four-digit code on the front.
When ordering something online, it could be either, and you don't know which until you've submitted payment and either it will be approved (as it should) or it will decline because you entered the wrong code for what it was looking for.
Periodic reminder that if you ditch the zero-trust part, if you admit that trust matters even a tiny bit, you can ditch the consensus algorithm and run the entire blockchain exercise on one shitty five year old Android phone. A firstgen raspberry pi would be overkill. Seven transactions per second wouldn’t have stretched a 486 on dial-up in 1996 and the whole stack is an embarrassment.
@bhawthorne@mhoye but case in point: the OP was lilely about #Bitcoun :bitcoin: since #Monero :monero: sonce that does scale pretty well and whilst not as fast as #PayPal :paypal: or any #CreditCard it's certainly faster than even #SEPA's "Instant Transfers"...
For example #Banks in the #USA are unstable af and the reason why #CashApp and #Venmo don't operate in the #EU and espechally #Germany isn't just lack of licensing by @BaFin but flat-out illegal ToS.
Not to mention that #CreditCard companies do censor one's ability to exercise economic freedom beyond complying with reasonable restrictions like sanctions.
Ask #Sexworkers how often they got their accounts frozen for being a Sexworker!
For once these were created in the #USA which to this day does not have an actually functioning #WireTransfer system that comes even close to #SEPA in terms of cost-efficiency, speed, availability and ease-of-use:
People still get literal #cheques to cashout decades after #Germany phased out chequebooks and banned that even long before that.
