Here's a thing; if you are going to order food from a delivery company like , , , , , etc. then once you have picked your restaurant, go and check the restaurant website to see if they have their own delivery option.

Sometimes they offer delivery themselves - or with a chosen partner company - and it can work out cheaper for you. Or if it's the same price, but the restaurant sometimes pockets more from the sale.

The Platform Work Directive was supposed to improve workers’ rights across the European Union. But then it was defeated.

On , I spoke to Ben Wray about what happened and where the fight for gig workers’ rights goes next.

Just in a local pizza place chatting with the owner, a Neapolitan, and the young woman who waits on tables. If you use or the business gets a bit over £30 on a £50 order when you include delivery, commission and so on. He shrugs and says “It’s the mafia…” I can’t imagine much of this all goes to the e-bike riders….

Walk the few hundred meters to your local restaurant and support your local independent business.

Just wanted to share a bit of an eye opening experience. @PrinceMumbles and I have had a bit of an increase in take-out orders where I've been working a lot further away from home than usual and he's been super busy with his work and neither of us wanted to come home and cook, tonight was one of those nights and we had one this time last week as well.

The difference last week is we wanted to order from a place we had not tried but heard good things about, but they were only on

wild1145,

For context here, we usually order through as I've got a plus account through Prime and get cashback on some of the transactions but we figured we'd give it a go.

A series of just bad scheduling and availability of delivery drivers later, the food rocks up a very long time after we ordered and had been sat on the counter waiting to be picked up for 40 mins. The restaurant left a note with our food apologising and left the time that they had finished prepping the food.

Ils bossent aussi dur, avec des salaires de merde (de la part de Youtube en tout cas), tout en se croyant libres et entrepreneurs, alors qu’ils ne sont qu’esclaves de la super-machine.

The judgement at the is one more aspect of the divergence from our previously solid rights as part of the EU - a benefit, but not for

'We face a dire combination of emboldened companies cutting real wages, intensifying work & undermining legal protections, and two major political parties that are fundamentally unwilling to grant workers the democratic right to organise in the workplace'!

Yes, that sounds about right!

The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) has lost its case at the (the last of 5yrs of appeals) meaning that can continue to regard its as self-employed, robbing them of employment protections & rights.

Just to be clear, if your business model requires workers to have few rights & protections, you are not a tech innovator, you are an old-style labour exploiter!

This is not the 'new economy' it the Victorian economy!

Kudos to @byjp and the web team, aided and abetted by the federverse, for shipping a fix for a critical issue (that removed the entire checkout page from the accessibility tree), just five hours from the moment I sent an optimistic bug report out into the federverse in hopes it might reach the right people! 💜

Do I know (or can I reach) anyone on the web team?

You have aria-hidden="true" set on a high-level container on your checkout page. So if, like me, you use a screen reader, the entire page is removed from the accessibility tree - making it impossible to complete checkout.

@guiltmanager has fixed the issue so the checkout (including the dialog that opens up) is now usable with Jaws and co.
