LB: it's good that people out there are starting to do the literal math on the very real financial costs of not mitigating covid infections, using the data we have on the odds of stuff like long covid, cognitive impairment, reduced immune system function, lost productivity and people washing out of the labor force (and so needing to be replaced by businesses altogether)

Doing the right thing shouldn't be a cost saving approach but if that's the only way to get movement on this issue I'll take it

@eniko Personally, I think the 3 big mistakes that went against all scientific data and knowledge should be clasified as and be prosecuted as such:

  1. Dropping any mandates.
  2. Dropping any .
  3. Not introducing .

Very interesting how international travel being shut down and places of gathering being closed ended up terminating an entire lineage of influenza. It’s almost like disease spread mitigation steps actually work.

@kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

@TransitBiker OFC it does work.

It's just that politicians have decided that they can do by since they've gotten away with that to this day.

@violetblue Agreed 100%

We normalized and by and people, removing and forcing people into gross danger...

It's sickening and disgusting at the same time...

When this Tory government is toppled, the Bojo regime must be brought to justice.
We now know that it was Johnston/Hancock policy to allow thousands to die rather than give support to the NHS. They cannot be allowed to walk away from this.

We thought Tories were clowns, incompetents & corrupt grfting charlatans...

Turns out they simply couldn't give a sh*t that their negligence would cost lives, destroy the NHS & spread the virus.

...Or maybe that was the intention all along.

all these news reports and notices of hospitals reinstating universal masking AFTER Covid outbreaks

How about BEFORE, to prevent an outbreak, and the inevitable consequences of staff illness, absence, infecting and making patients worse, extending their stay, potentially blocking a bed and delaying procedures for other patients

Also, baggy blues just won't cut it - N95s are the bare minimum

@MatWright Politics reigns supreme. Even farther right arm of far right governing party is rattling their sabres; premier who won leadership contest and then reelection on the back of said arm's organizing is worried. Hence, nothing that could even be slightly construed as 'govt overreach' by the most reactionary of reactionaries can even be hinted at.

But really, I'm never going to forgive so many people because of how they responded to Covid.

kkarhan,
@kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

@dave @BlackAzizAnansi that is very optimistic considering the fact that these people not only refuse to acknowledge they're wrong, but the fact that they've gotten so much support and attention and actively dismantled any reasonable and essential pandemic and epidemic control and regulation options and openly gaslight people and claim it never happened.

At this point I'm convinced they want by killing people through forced infection AND they think 2029 as in isn't a dystophia.

we are never going back to the world the way it was before COVID. we are not in a world where it's safe for you or people around you to stop masking, and there's no reason to believe we'll ever be in such a world again.

2023 represents a qualitative jump in all climate indicators, and the consequences we see—the wildfires, the heatwaves, the droughs, the floods etc.—will not stop. they will only accelerate.

there is no return to "normal". mourn the world that was, so that you can see with clarity the world that is, and be ready for it.

The Antarctic sea extent anomaly chart. Every year on record stays above -5%. 2023 so far has dropped sharply below -15%. This is significant not just for sea life but because the ice reflects sun heat more than water. The more the ice melts, the worse global heating gets.
Canada area burned by province, and total, 2023 vs. the average of the last 10 years. The average total is 2505 thousand hectares per year. 2023 so far burned 15407 thousand hectares.

kkarhan,
@kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

@ramonita that's because we're ruled by antisocial #Wankers that take pride in comitting #democide by inaction and refusing to enforce basic, fact-based quarantine regulations.

We could've gotten rid of this shit if we took it as serious as said #SARS infection it really is.

Instead assholed destroyed the few pandemic and epidemic protections that were codified.

And I've completely run out of spoons at this point!

ceracole, to climate

These wildfires in northwestern Canada appear to be starting to trap people. Why hasn't the Canadian military sent planes to evacuate them? Or have the government pay the commercial airlines to do so where possible? This would avoid price gouging and may be the easiest and fastest option.

Not sure because of distance, but resources from the US (Alaska/Washington) could also help evacuate quickly.

We are watching and waiting. No one is proactive anymore.

kkarhan,
@kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

@ceracole that is intentional!

They got away with by ( see 'rona : ) and thus have neither incentive nor threat of to do anything!
