I tried an interesting experiment for myself.
I had a little break of 36hrs. It was really surprising how soon hunger turned off once well past the next meal time. When I started eating again it felt more like I was doing it because I should than because I was very motivated to.

Hunger did come back only after eating first large meal, but I ate barely any more than on an average day perhaps.

Workout performance was typical during the fast (chest day + elliptical, cardio day etc) and I managed my normal amount of general activity just fine. I did feel light and quite good overall.

I haven't tried anything like that before, but I might again. I certainly didn't notice any ill effects, I felt good actually. At the minimum it shaves some calories per week and possibly resets your tastebuds.

Recently I've been having an eating quite 'clean' homecooked period which possibly made it easier than more processed etc foods which incline me to snacking or grazing more.

I wonder if this will reach anyone else who's tried and what their experience was?

I was a little slow on workout today, it was leg day so a lot of energy required, but I did do a couple of PBs.

Today is the final day, the transition out day, of the five day “Longo Inspired Cancer Avoidance Fast” . I didn’t sleep well at all. While I technically got more than seven hours of sleep it was pretty fragmented I’m down a yet another 2.5 pounds. My night time heart rate looked normal as does my heart rate variability and my morning blood pressure. Like the previous days I woke up feeling a bit hung over and dehydrated but once I started having some decaf coffee and water I felt much better.

Today is day two of five of the "Longo Inspired Cancer Avoidance Fast" that I've devised. It is the first "real" fast day, IOW nothing more than non-caloric beverages and ideally none with artificial sweeteners. As with yesterday I'm intending to live blog here with the same details being echoed at the below blog post throughout the day.
Fasting Day 2

hankg, to Health

Today is day four of five of the "Longo Inspired Cancer Avoidance Fast" that I've devised. It is the third and final "real" fast day, IOW nothing more than non-caloric beverages and ideally none with artificial sweeteners. I definitely woke up feeling more brain fog than yesterday and this time I got plenty of sleep. I definitely felt more dehydrated when I woke up too. No headaches or anything like that though. And as I’m sipping my morning cup of coffee I’m feeling less of both. I’m down a bit over another 2.5 pounds. My night time heart rate looked normal as does my heart rate variability. Even though it hasn’t been awful I’m glad today is the last “real” day of fasting too and tomorrow is a transition day.

Fasting Day 4

hankg, to longevity

As part of getting my whole lifestyle cleaned up for longevity purposes I want to get more rigorous about adding multi-day fasts into my annual routine. I've experiment and written about it a bunch in the past. I'll be doing a five day fast the day after 4th of July. To kick that off I figured I'd consolide all of my very amateur thoughts on fasting and how I have done it. I expect I'm going to be writing up the details of my fast, recipe for my transition days, and perhaps even live blogging the experience here for the first time. Here is my probably overly long post on the topic. #longevity #fasting #health
My Amateur Thoughts on Fasting and How I Do It

I'm about to embark on my second week long fast (3 days "water" + transition in/out days) targeting potential reduction in cancer risks. I've made some small tweaks from the lessons learned from the one in July, hence Version 2.0.

Ok, so I've shed 12 kg which is kind of a big thing for me. At what point does one go out and buy new trousers? The old ones still fit in their own way (to the extend that they ever did).

You go right ahead! When I lost weight, I made a point of telling people, not because I thought they'd be fascinated but because it made it harder for me to backslide. That bit of social pressure and accountability helped keep me on track.

I control my weight through , but Mrs Wife uses (and does brilliantly on it). Mutual support and encouragement seem to be quite a large part of the package.

Today is day three of five of the "Longo Inspired Cancer Avoidance Fast" that I've devised. It is the second "real" fast day, IOW nothing more than non-caloric beverages and ideally none with artificial sweeteners. Whether I end up using the electrolyte powders still remains to be seen. I had a little brain fog this morning but nothing atypical for not getting enough sleep and waking up too early. I woke up feeling slightly dehydrated and hung over as well. After a morning cup of coffee all that feels gone though. Weight compared to yesterday is down over 5.5 pounds. My nighttime heart rate minimum was down a few BPM but nothing I don't see in normal variations. Heart rate variability is still looking good. So beginning of the second day is starting off strong.
Fasting Day 3

hankg, to Health

As promised I'll be trying to live-blog my way through this five day "Longo Inspired Cancer Avoidance Fast" that I've devised. I always journal through my fasts. This is the first time doing it publicly though. For users of systems that show threaded comments my updates should appear as comments to this original post each day not isolated posts. I will try to remember to add the hashtags to each comment for those fediverse systems that don't present reply statuses in that manner. I am also going to try to make each update appear in the blog post as well.

In my attempt to lose fat I'm reintegrating 24h fastings. I plan to do them weekly.

First one started yesterday and I'm eating today at noon. It's going better than I thought, but I know that first times are easier and it's only when my stomach understands I trick it that it will try to compensate for the deficit during the remaining weekdays.

Of course I'm also being careful on regular days. The rule is to end every meal with a bit of sustainable hunger.

I've been for 24 hours. Encouragement to get to 36?

Yes, watching a competitive eating challenge video is a potentially odd choice while doing a water fast...but...these cheesecakes look so good. Trying to wolf down 33 pieces of cheesecake for a total of 41,000 calories in 24 hours...maybe not. Hell with the last several months of having my diet dialed in even eating full portions of entrees at some restaurants I often eat at has been a challenge.

Fästingjakt med P1 morgon igår. Med en vit fleecefilt samlade jag på ett par minuter in ett femtiotal fästingar.
https://sverigesradio.se/artikel/p1-morgon-ger-sig-ut-pa-fastingjakt

Intermittent & question.

Do you think having tea with oat milk during the day probably 1 big mug sometimes 2 before afternoon workout breaks/drgrades the intermittent fasting effect?

How is going for those who observe it?

A school friend of mine was & I was always impressed with her perseverance.

What do people in regions do about ? If there's no (or only very late) sunrise/sunset, does one not fast & do it later?

Anyway, !

PS: also happy to those inclined. I hope you had one a' penny-two a' penny :DsaprvingLua:

The irony of being even more into food sights/videos when on a multi-day fast than on a normal day. I mean I get how it happens but still...

I finally have enough data to summarize how my second week long fast (3 days "water" + transition in/out days) for targeting potential/hypothetical reduction in life long cancer risks went. While early data shows these sorts of protocols may reduce risks at a population level it is impossible to know how much it will help my individual cancer risk even if the science was conclusive. That said, the experience and directly measurable biometrics were solid and my modifications fixed muscle loss problems with the version I executed in July. This protocol will work for me for the next one in 6-12 months. The post goes into a lot more details.
