I'm taking Shylo for a check-up on Monday. Fasting for 4 to 6 hours? I better eat a big breakfast by 8AM, then. I'm going to get pretty hungry by the afternoon. Shylo watching from her warm Sunday sunbeam as a neighbor dog gets escorted to its outdoor litterbox...

How is going for those who observe it?

A school friend of mine was & I was always impressed with her perseverance.

What do people in regions do about ? If there's no (or only very late) sunrise/sunset, does one not fast & do it later?

Anyway, !

PS: also happy to those inclined. I hope you had one a' penny-two a' penny :DsaprvingLua:

In my attempt to lose fat I'm reintegrating 24h fastings. I plan to do them weekly.

First one started yesterday and I'm eating today at noon. It's going better than I thought, but I know that first times are easier and it's only when my stomach understands I trick it that it will try to compensate for the deficit during the remaining weekdays.

Of course I'm also being careful on regular days. The rule is to end every meal with a bit of sustainable hunger.

Intermittent #Fasting & #workout question.

Do you think having tea with oat milk during the day probably 1 big mug sometimes 2 before afternoon workout breaks/drgrades the intermittent fasting effect?

I finally have enough data to summarize how my second week long fast (3 days "water" + transition in/out days) for targeting potential/hypothetical reduction in life long cancer risks went. While early data shows these sorts of protocols may reduce risks at a population level it is impossible to know how much it will help my individual cancer risk even if the science was conclusive. That said, the experience and directly measurable biometrics were solid and my modifications fixed muscle loss problems with the version I executed in July. This protocol will work for me for the next one in 6-12 months. The post goes into a lot more details.

The irony of being even more into food sights/videos when on a multi-day fast than on a normal day. I mean I get how it happens but still... #fasting #longevity #fitness

I tried an interesting experiment for myself.
I had a little break of 36hrs. It was really surprising how soon hunger turned off once well past the next meal time. When I started eating again it felt more like I was doing it because I should than because I was very motivated to.

Hunger did come back only after eating first large meal, but I ate barely any more than on an average day perhaps.

Workout performance was typical during the fast (chest day + elliptical, cardio day etc) and I managed my normal amount of general activity just fine. I did feel light and quite good overall.

I haven't tried anything like that before, but I might again. I certainly didn't notice any ill effects, I felt good actually. At the minimum it shaves some calories per week and possibly resets your tastebuds.

Recently I've been having an eating quite 'clean' homecooked period which possibly made it easier than more processed etc foods which incline me to snacking or grazing more.

@ArtBear@catodon.social avatar

I wonder if this will reach anyone else who's tried and what their experience was?

I was a little slow on workout today, it was leg day so a lot of energy required, but I did do a couple of PBs.

I'm about to embark on my second week long fast (3 days "water" + transition in/out days) targeting potential reduction in cancer risks. I've made some small tweaks from the lessons learned from the one in July, hence Version 2.0.

Scientists looking to tackle our ongoing obesity crisis have discovered that intermittent fasting leads to significant changes both in the gut and the brain, which may open up new options for maintaining a healthy weight, Science Alert reports:

Ok, so I've shed 12 kg which is kind of a big thing for me. At what point does one go out and buy new trousers? The old ones still fit in their own way (to the extend that they ever did).

You go right ahead! When I lost weight, I made a point of telling people, not because I thought they'd be fascinated but because it made it harder for me to backslide. That bit of social pressure and accountability helped keep me on track.

I control my weight through , but Mrs Wife uses (and does brilliantly on it). Mutual support and encouragement seem to be quite a large part of the package.

I finally posted the analysis from the first run of my Valter Longo Inspired Cancer Avoidance Fast. It is a pretty dry analysis of changes in various biomarkers, how I felt, what I may change when I do it again in the future, etc. If you are expecting miraculous results you'll be disappointed. I wasn't expecting them nor did I get them. This is about a relatively small and easy (for me) intervention that I'm hoping can potentially reduce my overall risk of getting cancer when done once or twice a year.
My Longo Inspired Cancer Avoidance Fast Results

As I'm getting around to writing up the summary of my just completed 5 day Longo-inspired cancer avoidance fast, I decided to write up the recipe for the soup I made. This will not be winning any James Beard Awards I can tell you that (my food photography won't be winning any awards either). I found it very tasty but I am used to lower-sodium eating. It's possible to customize that aspect. It was good enough I'll be making it again on my next fast for these same purposes.
Fasting Transition Days' Soup Recipe

NGL, obviously it was very satisfying eating food yesterday at the end of my five day fast but having my first Coke Zero in nearly a week this morning was almost as wonderful.

hankg, to Health

Today is the final day, the transition out day, of the five day “Longo Inspired Cancer Avoidance Fast” . I didn’t sleep well at all. While I technically got more than seven hours of sleep it was pretty fragmented I’m down a yet another 2.5 pounds. My night time heart rate looked normal as does my heart rate variability and my morning blood pressure. Like the previous days I woke up feeling a bit hung over and dehydrated but once I started having some decaf coffee and water I felt much better.

hankg,

14:00 -- Ate another half a cup of the soup all vitals are bouncing around in the normal range. I'm not having any GI issues. I think I'll try a full cup in the next hour. Biggest problem I'm having today that I didn't have previously is a very high craving to start drinking my diet soda again. Not until tomorrow though...

hankg,

15:00 -- I picked just before it was getting ready to downpour to head out to the supermarket to get the ingredients for tomorrow's Indian food recipe experiments. Made it back just before the heavens really started opening up. I got my one cup of soup in right at the top of the hour. All vitals are status quo. Definitely no fatigue this afternoon like last few days. I think I may be feeling a slight headache coming on but nothing quite yet.

hankg,

18:00 -- Ate another cup of the soup at 17:00 and a bit more than a cup just now. Vitals all still look good. The blood pressure that spiked to the high end of my normal range, which is when I don't have my health dialed in, is now sitting right around the middle range now. Still no fatigue for today. No head rushes, brain fog, etc. The headache I thought I was feeling earlier never manifested. GI issues haven't manifested either. All that's left for today is the big dinner searching of the soup. Which I'll probably have between 19:00 and 20:00.

hankg,

20:00 -- I underestimated how long it would take to heat up the soup I reserved for dinner so didn't get started eating it until the top of the hour. I also underestimated how much food that was going to be after not eating for three days. On the transition in day I ate half the recipe at each meal no problem. Today it took me over 45 minutes to accomplish that and I am feeling very full. It's the last food for the day though so now it is just calorie free beverages for the rest of the day.

hankg,

22:30 --With that the fast is entirely over. Tomorrow is back to regular eating of a dialed in diet. I'm very much looking forward to trying the new recipes.
