Verbena bonariensis, up close and personal...

I haven't got around to planting this out yet. Must find a good place for it. Maybe it's time to dig up more of the boring lawn & add more plants...🤔

This harbinger of spring in bushes, Northern Gold , makes a very bright, cheerful statement in the spring garden. It is an old fashioned classic with earlier yellow trumpet shaped flowers that smother the branches in early spring ahead of the leaves.

It’s a big day, Michigan sports fans! Our Lions have two picks in the first round of the NFL Draft, and the Tigers start a four-game set tonight against the Orioles. First pitch is at 6:40! In other news, the tulip trail is lookin good.

The Cornelian Cherry bush is not actually a cherry tree or bush, and does not have cherries although you can eat the fruit. It is a member of the Dogwood family, an early spring bloomer with tiny yellow flower clusters on woody stems, branches and is a unique addition to the spring garden.

I saw this cut tree laying in the grass from a distance and was amazed at how the shape of the saw cut wood reminded me of a flower with petals. This is a Common Pear Tree that was felled for some reason at the arboretum.

We're pretty happy that our Dogwood tree has flowered.

During the drought last summer it shed half of it's leaves over the summer. It didn't look good.

We waited while nearby cherry and apple trees flowered, and finally last week, flowers started popping.

For "Spring Dance. The Phlox Formal." I believed the photo had good color and interesting texture, but lacked a focal point. As I explored different abstraction techniques I noticed that the blending of colors was creating a sense of motion. Following that lead, the result became a dance of springtime colors that tied in perfectly with the spring dance traditions that happen around the globe.

A windflower (aka Japanese Anemone). We have a couple of varieties in our garden, but they're normally pinker than this (or white)...

Aquilegia Early Bird Red Yellow Columbine is very eye catching with it's long spurred bright crimson red flowers with a yellow corolla, rising with natural grace above a compact mound of light green foliage.

One of the most beautiful flowers to look forward to in spring is the Rhododendron. It is an early bloomer in the spring garden and has the most amazingly bright and showy blossoms. This lavender variety, Rhododendron Sichotense, took center stage in the rhodo garden.
