This is an AIWA AD F500E tape deck from 1994. It's powering on but the mechanism is not spinning. Let's have a look.

And indeed it is working just fine now! It’s not a high end deck by any means, but beats the cheap mechanisms you can get today.

Testing out the AIWA AD F550 deck with new drive belt.

It saddens me that two generations have now grown up consuming almost all their music in compressed form - aka
My son's party at the weekend was (of course) all streamed from . The sound quality is apalling. Mushy and lacking in sparkle and dynamics. Even including tracks which I know have been recorded to a very high quality standard.
And the artists behind the music are being screwed too.
How can we have gone so backwards 😩

How on earth can music be "left-field"? Surely it's just a polite way of saying it's too weird for my taste.

JdeBP,

@missmelanieh It's usually, well at least in my living room, when one of the speaker wires has come loose again. (-:

Although the amplifier has been showing a disturbing tendency to overheat and cut out on one channel, of late.

What a beautiful device, not sure what year it was released, seems to be late 1990’s.
Wish to have one for my music room in a near future!

hey y'all. i'm looking for some putting together a new setup. last week i acquired an brand and three matching , and i'd really like to find a matching , but so far my search results have been suboptimal.

my turntable is an Aiwa PX-E860, and i have one Aiwa SX-C605 center speaker and 2 Aiwa SX-R275 stereo speakers. the turntable has a 2001 manufacture date, so i'm betting the speakers are about the same since i found them all in the same place.

i can't find a product catalogue or anything from around that time, so i'm truly at a loss as to what model of amplifier i should be looking for.

boosts appreciated! thanks for reading.

This is what I’m currently working on: A Hifi streaming device for Apple Music. It shall run on a @Raspberry_Pi with a HifiBerry DAC attached. The streamer shall have a touchscreen and shall be remote controllable using an iPhone app. Additionally it shall support AirPlay (recieving audio only) and Spotify Connect.

Okay, it’s time for a nerd question. Help me, nerds.

I want to connect a Blu-Ray player to my iMac and watch movies etc on the screen.

Have you done this? Would you recommend it?

Playing now 's new album. Not bad so far I’m really into his captivating rhythms and these soulful melodies.

I've wanted one of these for a long time, and I finally found one on eBay for a reasonable amount. It's an Onkyo Hi-MD deck. One of the few Hi-MD decks ever made. And it fits perfectly on top of my DENON shelf CD receiver.

So, interesting discovery today… we have (rather, my father has) a Rotel RP-1001 turntable… still works, but the speed control pot needs some TLC. I'm at two minds whether to just replace it (the pot, not the turntable).

Went looking, seems Rotel are still around, and still publish the user manual for the thing.

https://www.rotel.com/product/rp-1001

Not bad product support for a turntable that is at least 4-years my senior! Now if only their website didn't send me to the wrong page of the .au site.

I did find the service manual.

https://elektrotanya.com/rotel_rp-1001_sm.pdf/download.html

…and someone on eBay kindly took a photo of the part in question.

The pot in question is VR001; a 2kOhm linear 16mm pot. Element14 have one that looks pretty close, but with detents.

RS also have a similar pot, but 2.2k not 2k, however it is likely dedent free.

The extra 200ohms might not matter, but I'm not entirely sure. Or do I go a 1k pot and "pad" it with two pairs of 1k resistors in parallel?
