Since I found my old Identi.ca account a couple of days ago, I searched for and found a few of my old follows.
Hello old friends from 15yrs ago – we probably didn't really get to know each other much back on that platform, but we were pioneering some stuff, right?
Also #Friendica a few yrs before that, but the date is lost in the mist of time. Or wait, was that #Identica ? Now I'm not sure I remember – which was around in the 2015ish era?
Stumbled across my avatar pic for Identi.ca - Looks like I was on there in 2009 based on time stamp.
Vaguely recall a nice person I enjoyed interacting with, but further connections didn't really take, in spite of a bit of effort.
I would have already been on the birdsite for a year or two by then.
Discovered Mastodon in 2019 and connections built nicely here. Glad I jumped in before the bird died. Mastodon stands nicely on the shoulders of what came before.
Yesterday was 1 year for me on Mastodon. It's delightful. Haven't had as much fun (or lack of guilt for supporting bad actors) since the #Identica days.

It’s still visible on Identi.ca today, although the URL format changed a few years ago, and the redirect plugin stopped working a few years after that.
@FediGarden@foozmeat maybe if you look at it like this, yes. But the Number of servers was very low for a very long time, so naturally the percentage of old servers can not be high.

My advice to the new citizens of Mastodon. First of all: Welcome! Thank you for being around.
Find at least one interesting profile by going through their timeline. Have a look at their followers and who they follow. Follow them all :) You can always unfollow later. Give it a bit of time. You don’t have to frantically check your timeline. Once a day or even a week is the better approach. You’ll be surprised how a slow but steady approach results in a fascinating timeline.
