I am really enjoying my time here. So many interesting and truly smart and insightful people. I see such potential in this platform. I was around in the 90s during that initial www excitement, feeling like anything is possible. Mastodon feels like that. People powered. FCKVCs. #Mastodonanniversary

#Elon's mini-meltdown on the Dealbook conference last Wednesday was just icing on the cake. We got out while the going was good and were (mostly) spared the agonizing degradation of our old home.
The last year showed me social networks can be different, with a different set of rules that prove self-governing is a successful form of running shows.
I wish there were more people from my part of the world here. We all desperately need a different outtake on life.
I've posted about 150 Tweets in my 11-year Twitter history. I've never set up a personal Facebook account. I've completely missed the Instagram mania...

1 year ago, at the urging of an online friend and with a great deal of assistance, I joined Mastodon. It has been a journey of discovery, and plenty more, where I've met a great number of diverse authors and learned /so much/ about the craft and the experience of writing that my mind wants to explode. Along the way, I've met numerous artists—who I'm following as perspective cover artists, as well as for genuine inspiration—photographers, pundits, and other creatives. Every day has been fun. I've enjoyed answering your questions from my experience as a writer. As a shy introvert, who's somewhat #autistic, you've gifted me the opportunity to experience community very unlike my experience as an author, pre-Internet. I might not have burnt out and had to rediscover writing had I had you'all around.

At first, my goal was to recreate my Twitter, but quickly realized the community here was so different. I've met so many fine people scattered all over, including many of the fine users of the #Running, #Ottawa, and #iOSDev hashtags. Thank you all!
So, today is my Mastodon anniversary. As many who joined about a year ago, I came as Phony Stark bought the hellhole across the road and made it even more dystopian than before. At first I wasn't very involved, I didn't post much and didn't even come here every day. When Twitter pulled the plug on 3rd party apps (I was a Tweetbot-only Twitter user), and the wonderful team at Tapbots announced Ivory, I decided to leave Twitter for good and make an effort here.
At first, the differences annoyed me, specially the lack of verified sources of information. I used Twitter primarily as a way to replace RSS feeds for news sources I trusted, and it frustrated me that I couldn't replicate it here. I had only a few real people I followed there, mostly other motorsports fans, so I wasn't looking for community. But little by little I realised that I didn't really need all the information that I was consuming over there. In fact, I could breathe a little better without being aware of every single news item out there.
And then, community found me. And a sort of community I wasn't expecting. Stumbling upon some wonder trans women here changed things in ways that I could not have predicted. For the first time in my life, I was reading people writing my feelings and my thoughts; how was that even possible? Could it... No, surely not. But... am I?
Yeah, I am.
One year ago, as I was signing up for Mastodon, I had no idea a social network could have such a profound impact on one's life. It was just not how I used social media. One year later, I can't even begin to describe how I feel about, well... waves vaguely at herself. I am sure I would have figured things out, eventually, but who knows how long it would have taken me to get there? Mastodon has changed my life in ways I didn't know were possible. Thank you, my wonderful trans sisters, for helping me finding myself here. And thank you Mastodon, for existing and being a (relatively) safe space. You're not perfect, but you are wonderful in your imperfections, and you are having impact that goes well beyond the code that brings us together. 💜
Today is my one year Mastodon anniversary! Despite me also being around elsewhere I've really come to like this place for its friendly gaming community and the fact that no one seems to mind my endless ramblings about one and the same character all the time! 💀😂 I know I'm not the most sociable person on here (I'm too awkward) but I would still like to think that I've managed to at least become SOME part of the community. Yesterday was my #MastodonAnniversary. 🥳 Overall, this has been a very interesting year for social media and I like the discourse and insights here in the Fediverse. There are some topics and activities that I miss from the other site but I haven't and won't be posting there anymore.

@jerry My one year #mastodonanniversary is in a few days! On 10/30/22, the jerk face guy amplified a stupid lie about Paul Pelosi, who had just been violently assaulted. I have zero regrets and have truly enjoyed finding new voices on #mastodon
