Stop Electron, stop using a browser as if it was an Operating System!!! Go #terminal#cli#TUI use your OS, not the browser for everything! And be liter, more ethical, your computer will love you! Use #Gemini#gopher#usenet#matrix#fediverse on TUI apps #vim#neovim as your text/IDE #mpv for videos and more... !!!
If you use #mpv, and like making short reaction clips out of the media you watch…
Make sure to check out mpv-webm, a really cool standalone plugin for mpv that does exactly that, with many configuration options for different encodings and formats (not just webm), quality, and a very simple and effective UI!
By removing direct dvdread support, mpv broke DVD ripping for me since it now jumps to the dvd menu after the title I want to rip, producing a garbage output file. I tried alternatives like dvdbackup and handbrake, but both are not usable. The latter crashed at some point.
Seems I do have to write my own code again just to be able to batch rip DVDs on the command line. If that happens, it will be released here:
Oh mann, #mpv ick liebe dir.
Can we stop putting #Christian symbolism on our apps, please!?!
I'm already fed up with #VLC doing this - 1st time noticing this sith in #MPV.
NO, i'm an #Atheist (with a biographical A as in Anti), and i do not think that celebrating the birthday of a central figure to one of the most unpleasant "schemes of things" is a great idea!
New Jellyfin client Delfin just showed up on Flathub and it looks amazing. Very exciting to have a native client that runs nicely (albeit playback is a little stuttery still) on an L5!
While the stuttering on the #Librem5 IIUC is likely due to missing upstream V4L2 stateless decoding in #mpv - which is the most important thing to get working - the offloading stuff will help to reduce buffer copies to a minimum before showing things on screen. Together hopefully allowing people to stream for hours.
For #GNOME app folks: IMHO we need to think about what to do with Totem / Gnome Videos. It has not yet been ported to #gtk4, which is increasingly becoming an issue.
Apart from not fitting nicely UI wise, it prevents us from using the newly introduced #wayland hardware offloading (zero-copy playback) and, crucially, from (properly) supporting HDR content going forward.
I.e. we either need a port - or should consider making an alternative a core app to focus on.
If we go for an alternative, the main requirement is surely #gtk4 / #libadwaita with adaptive UI. For distros it's probably also important to have some kind of dependency management to install missing codecs.
The language could probably be anything from c, rust, vala or gjs.
I wonder about the backend - should sticking with #GStreamer be a requirement or is something based on #ffmpeg / #mpv ok as well?
do you know if #vlc (or possibly #mpv, I could switch to use that, but I'm not interested in using players that are not in debian) has a command to skip forwards in a video to the next time for which there is a subtitle? to get to the next part of the video with somebody actually speaking, or a reasonable approximation of that.
Searching on the internet I've found a few people asking for this (with no answers) and a “no such feature” reply from 2015, but things may have changed?
While I appreciate all the work #ublock has done, my preferred way of watching #youtube has been with #qutebrowser launching #mpv when I click on a video.
