The monastery of Lindisfarne was founded 634 by Saint Aidan (pic) who was sent from Iona to Northumbria by King Oswald.
Holy Island was an important centre of Christianity under Saints Aidan, Cuthbert, Eadfrith, and Eadberht of Lindisfarne. Saint Bede wrote much of what we know about this history.
With frequent attacks from the Vikings, the Abbey was plundered and destroyed. #nature#Wildlife#art#Photography#Forest#Wood#northumberland#wild#winter#island#holy#religious#church#saint
I’ve been out for a very chilly and frosty walk this afternoon. The light was lovely when I set off, but it was already getting gloomy by around 3.30. I can see how people who aren’t familiar with the area get caught out in the hills at this time of year. #Northumberland#Walking#Today
Some pictures from my snowy walk yesterday. It was a beautiful day, very chilly, but I had my fleecy hat and mitts so I was fine. #Northumberland#Walking#Snow
We've had no buses at all since the 28th of October, and none in two of the four weeks before that. Go North East staff were on strike because of appallingly unfair pay and conditions.
The workers and unions bravely kept going in spite of the hardship, until the company finally gave them a deal they could accept. So the strike ends today!
Hurrah for unions!
And hurrah for the buses coming back!
And a loud jeering for the company who would rather run no buses for weeks on end than pay fairly.
Last of the autumn colours against a stormy sky.
I love the way this old Zuiko lens renders this scene.

A glorious morning walk up to Brough Law Hillfort. It’s very impressive, and very obviously there, if you see what I mean. #Northumberland#Walking#Hillfort
