If you’re wondering why nothing is getting done in Washington lately it’s because another clown car full of elected Republicans is going to NY to soothe Trump’s butthurt feelings because nobody else is in court with him. They’re also there to interfere with the rule of law on Trump’s behest.
Each of these elected members should be censured for their attempts to obstruct justice.
…A WaPo analysis of #Trump’s #SocialMedia posts since the start of his campaign in late 2022 showed that he has gone after #judges or their family members by name 138 times. The weeks of Mar 24 & Mar 17, respectively, included the 2nd & 4th highest number of posts attacking judges overall. Trump criticized judges most frequently during the wk of Jan 7, w/ 14 individual #attacks, nearly all targeted at #Engoron.
Trump’s attacks also come amid growing concerns about the #safety of federal #judges. Reuters found that #threats against fed judges have more than doubled since late 2020, when #Trump significantly increased his criticism of the #judiciary.
In #Georgia, #FultonCounty Superior Court Judge Scott #McAfee, who is presiding over a #Trump#criminal case involving allegations related to overturning the 2020 election results, has also faced #threats, including a #swatting incident at his #Atlanta-area home in Jan. A spox for the responding local PD said the investigation had been turned over to the #FBI.
#GagOrder Against #Trump Is Expanded to Stop Attacks on Judge’s Family
Donald Trump had in recent days targeted the daughter of Juan #Merchan, the judge overseeing his #criminal trial in Manhattan, in blistering social media posts.
#Merchan: “Such concerns will undoubtedly #interfere w/the fair administration of #justice & constitutes a direct attack on the #RuleOfLaw itself. Again, all citizens, called upon to participate in these proceedings, whether as a #juror, a #witness, or in some other capacity, must now concern themselves not only w/their own personal #safety, but w/the safety & the potential for personal attacks upon their loved ones. That reality cannot be overstated.”
#Merchan cont: “Put mildly, the assortment of allegations presented as ‘facts’ & cobbled together, result in accusations that are disingenuous & not rational. To argue that the most recent attacks, which included photographs, were ‘necessary & appropriate in the current environment,’ is farcical.”
“The People argue in their submission that Defendant's attacks, which include referring to a prosecution #witness last week as ‘death’, are based on ‘transparent falsehoods.’ …The People provide a plethora of compelling arguments in support of their claim that Defendant's conduct is deliberate & intended to #intimidate this Court & impede the orderly administration of this trial.”
Trump claims Merchan’s daughter stands to benefit financially from the case, saying it will be “fodder for fundraising.”
The letter states, “Your Honor has an interest in this case that warrants recusal…; there is an unacceptable risk that the Court's family relationships will influence judicial conduct…”
—that argument was already deemed speculative after a prior recusal motion.
DA #AlvinBragg prosecutors write, “There is simply nothing new here that would alter this Court's prior conclusion that nothing about this proceeding will directly benefit Authentic* or this Court's family member, let alone this Court.” (*#Merchan’s daughter’s co)
#Trump attys again! 🙄) claim Justice [#Merchan made inappropriate "extrajudicial" stmnts in his AP interview (link earlier in 🧵).
The DA points to the remark at issue noting it’s not even clear that it’s about Trump, “Even if the Court did have this case in mind, expressing a broad commitment to impartiality is very obviously not a prohibited 'comment about a pending or impending proceeding,'...& is not a basis for recusal."
It's always been clear. This account of European Commissioner Thierry Breton just reconfirms it:
Trump is serving Putin!
"...
"You need to understand that if Europe is under attack we will never come to help you and to support you," Trump told European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in 2020, according to French European Commissioner Thierry Breton, who was also present at a meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
"By the way, NATO is dead, and we will leave, we will quit NATO," Trump also said, according to Breton. "And he added, ‘and by the way, you owe me $400 billion, because you didn’t pay, you Germans, what you had to pay for defense,'" Breton said about the tense meeting, where the EU's then-trade chief Phil Hogan was also present.

@thepoliticalcat@Nonilex Clarence has long been identified as the most corrupt justice on SCOTUS's bench, the justices of which have always been treated like holy cows, purportedly as "infallible" as the Pope in Rome.
While also in his case no one has ever personally seen the commandment thrown down on earth by God himself, designating him & the Pope that one clerical guy, who'll never err.
Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, OR GIVES AID OR COMFORT THERETO, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
New, from me: We are learning new details about Trump's plans to build an authoritarian state. He is recruiting lawyers who will use government power to protect him, attack his enemies, and not let the constitution block his far right agenda. https://donmoynihan.substack.com/p/trumps-criminal-lawyers
'All hope is lost' with Jim #Jordan after he 'loses big' on third #speaker vote — his worst yet
After losing two votes for House speaker, far-right nominee Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) was determined to keep fighting. A third vote was held on the House floor on Friday morning, October 20, and this time, things went even worse for Jordan when three Republicans who voted for him before flipped and voted "no," including Fitzpatrick
@realTuckFrumper Threatening members of Congress so they'll receive death threats (following the despicable example of Trump) needs to be considered an act(s) of terrorism — even if committed by one other or a group of congressional members.
No "politician" should get away with terrorizing members of Congress.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Definition of Terrorism
Under Section 2 of the Homeland Security Act of 2002:
(15) The term ‘‘terrorism’’ means any activity that— (A) involves an act that— (i) is dangerous to human life or potentially destructive of critical infrastructure or key resources; and (ii) is a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State or other subdivision of the United States; and (B) appears to be intended— (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping.
@arstechnica Spoiled brat Musk is so spaced out, he's looking down on tiny earthling matters from his golden toilet on planet Mars — where no one's daring to regulate him.
Jack Smith is not "hating" Trump.
It's Jack Smith's job to bring career criminals to justice — and he's certainly excellent at it.
It's completely irrelevant, whether Trump is an asshole or not, the job of the prosecutor is to serve justice & the people's Rule of Law, which no one is supposed to be above — not even more or less wealthy sociopathic real-estate developers, who wrongly assume justice should serve & protect them from accountability & the laws of the United States.
This Daily Beast piece on DeSantis' security team tripping over themselves to keep a 15-year-old kid from asking difficult questions is pure gold. Getting big time Dead Zone vibes after reading this story, and this kid is my new hero.
His question should be the first that anyone asks every GOP candidate on the campaign trail for the next 14 months:
“Do you believe that Trump violated the peaceful transfer of power,” the teenager asked the governor, “a key principle of American democracy that we must uphold?”
@briankrebs Anyone's entitled to get an honest & straight answer to that very justified question.
However, don't expect one from today's "Republicans".
"When the Republican candidates pledged loyalty to Trump last week during the debate (and on other occasions as well), they were also endorsing and supporting his crimes and promising to continue with them. As a practical matter, they are now his criminal co-conspirators."
U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Tuesday quashed six motions as part of Donald Trump's federal case related to the 2020 election and his alleged role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
The motions showed up on the court docket one day after Chutkan set a March 4, 2024, trial date that is the day before the "Super Tuesday" primaries in 15 states #AureFreePress#News#GOP#Politics#USA#Trump
@Free_Press 😎✌ Legal proceedings to hold insurrectionary individuals speedily to account are more important than criminals' desire to evade justice & possible incarceration by running for public office to gain more than questionable protection by a more than questionable legal opinion originally drafted to protect the prime Watergate beneficiary (, who resigned his post in the wake of the outrageous scandal, to evade his impeachment).
Florida & other states are hiding #HateCrimes by not bothering to report them: We're experiencing the highest level of hate crime in this country🚨-from SPLC. FBI: 31% increase in hate crime incidents from 2020-21. >60% of the victims: targeted bc of race or ethnicity -while major drop in agencies reporting crime to the FBI. In FL, 67% of agencies reported crimes to the FBI in 2020. In 2021, only 33% did.
