- all parts of plant are & shouldn't be handled. Only bee that can tolerate its toxins is the specialist mining bee. Toxic to animals, especially sheep. Humans have been poisoned after ingesting bulbs; kids have been poisoned after ingesting flowers & flower buds.

Random question!

Sorry for the bad pic, this was at the back of a frog with blurry glass and this was the best shot I could get. It has a creeping habit, the leaves are about an inch long, and the flowers are more purple than this blue the camera saw.

Last night I discovered a new reptile shop in town I'd never seen before, the owner has an awesome multi-shelf aquarium build inside with 3D printed plant holders and all sorts of goodies. I'm going to beg her for a cutting of this lovely thing whatever it is!

Search engines are so terrible now I'm not having much luck finding anything useful.

Can anyone help ID this plant?

It has leaves similar in appearance and odor to those of oregano, thyme, and marjoram. I took a cutting; the stems are woody.

The base is around 12" / 30 cm in diameter. It's still green and I'm in zone 7b/8a and we have had nights down to 22 deg F / -5.5 C so far this winter.

The seed stalks are quite tall - 30" / 75 cm; having separate flower / seed stalks does not seem typical of oregano / thyme plants.

Any types know what species this beauty is? I don’t want to wait til the owner gets back home to ask her what it is. 🤣 Patience with human beings I am good with. Patience with virtually ANYTHING else? I’m rubbish at it.

ok i found a white lily with hints of purple and hints of yellow and i think six petals. anyone know what the name of this kind of lily is?

it was podding and the seeds were dropping so I collected some pods for the seed library.

I think it's a lily. i don't really know my flowers but it looks like some of the pictures of lilies online.

it has blades of leaf, not a stem with leaves on it.

UPDATE: It's wild garlic

Is this allium vineale / wild garlic? Allium oleraceum / field garlic? Or Allium schoenoprasum / ?

The last option, chives, is to the USA and ; the others aren't. I'm growing a native plant garden, so if it's / introduced, I'll evict it.

When I picked a leaf off the specimen growing out of the wall, it smelled faintly of green , so I'm inclined to believe it is in the onion family.

Ok folks, is this , tarragon, or something else? Apparently horseweed kind of tastes like tarragon, so even if I were willing to eat it, that may not help. https://foragingguru.com/erigeron-canadensis/ PlantNet isn't giving me a probability over 50% for either, but I'm leaning towards horseweed since it's growing in a crack in the sidewalk. iNaturalist seems to favor horseweed.

Web searches yield no results for distinguishing the two plants. Am I the only idiot who can't tell the difference?

It's wild carrot season, also known as Queen Anne's Lace, or bird's nest. It's one of the most mis-identified plants I see here on the internet, which is dangerous because the lookalikes range from bad-rash to deadly-if-ingested. Supposedly how Socrates died, if you believe the tall tale.

See that little dark purpley central flower? It's supposed to make it look like a bug is already feasting on it, and it's the surest way to make an ID. Now, not every single wild carrot flower has this little doot, but if I'm planning on harvesting, I only take the ones that do, just so I can be absolutely certain I have the correct plant.

What is this plant again, and how do I properly care for it? Should I divide it into separate “onions” or just leave it as it is? It started as a single “onion” a couple of years ago, and now it is completely overflowing its pot… It sits outside during the summer and inside in a windowsill during the winter. It gets tiny light purple flowers (a few is seen on the photo). I haven't seen any seeds yet.

Hey fediverse!
A. Got any idea what this is? (Resolved! Black Phoebe!)
B. Got any good bird-identification hashtags I can slap on here? :)

Update: It’s a Black Phoebe! Thank you, @dendroica !

I’d still love to hear any bird ID hashtags to note for the next time I’m stymied for new leads on a bird, though!

Looking for an id please on the small blue flowers.

The larger ones on the right are germander speedwell (veronica chamaedrys).

The smaller ones on the left have a different type of leaf. Could they be a another kind of speedwell?

Germander speedwell (veronica chamaedrys) with common daisy (bellis perennis) for size comparison.
