🪂 Progressive Web Apps 'Don't Spy or Clog Your Phone'. Do You Use Them? | @slashdot
⎧ Web apps look and function pretty much like the conventional apps for your phone or computer, but they clog less space on your device and are less pushy about surveilling you. People who make web apps also say they are easier to create and update than conventional apps... But web apps have been around for years, and most people don't know they exist... ⎭

My phone is glitching so I’m truly using my iPad for the first time ever. I need to say that it isn’t fantastic.very inconsistent experiences between apps and other apps. And #safari! Omg it sucks! Especially with #pwa apps, but generally quite poor compared to anything chromium based.
So... Android is doing something bad to firefox as PWA website in Fx doesnt have as good functionality as in chrome... :-(
Need to research it later and find if i can fix it on my own. #pwa#android#firefox
Are PWAs run through the other extensions on the browser? For example, if I used the Youtube PWA, would uBlock filter out the ads? Or is that explicitly on a regular website?
With third party browser support for Add to homescreen, is #PWA on iOS ahead of Android? WebAPK is still Chrome-only so most Android browsers have limited PWA support.
You don't need an #app . Something for your newspaper? We have a thing called a browser for that. Something to order online? Why, people need internet connection anyway
You want people to get updates ? There's a thing called #RSS . You want people to have an icon to click to ? Just make a #PWA, you can even send push notifications these days.
It's better to make one great web app than make two shitty native apps.
Is there some kind of magick that will allow any links I click on going to music.youtube.com to open in the YouTube Music PWA I have installed via Edge, instead of in a tab in Edge? This feels like basic functionality that's missing... #PWA
In case you, too, have been bitten by the "no JS alert() in PWA" bug in #Vivaldi which renders a few #PWA's partially broken, it's a relatively recent bug by which I mean it's 2 years old
TBF: I haven't paid a dime for Vivaldi, they don't owe me anything, and it's a fine piece of tech. I can still be annoyed by bugs, though.
