The #pharmacy#chain in question, which is happy to give both your #prescription (and presumably #vaccination) #records to pretty much anyone who wants them, in addition to letting them see when your prescriptions are eligible for refill, order those refills, and turn on OR OFF automatic fills for your prescripts is ...
Bryan Hoffa is a library audio preservation specialist with the Library of Congress. In this video he shows us how 78rpm records are cleaned and digitized for the LOC. He also shares some interesting variables about the inconsistencies of 78s.
August 12th is National Vinyl Record Day (apparently) so I grabbed all the vinyl I could find in my house. It's not a lot. I used to have many crates full. But after many moves, I thinned the collection down to nearly nothing, as I do digital music mostly now (I have no turntable anymore either). But sometimes, I grab a couple. Bought the bottom row here recently. Odd I can't find my copy of Telekon. Pretty sure I still have that one somewhere. I hope so. And wow, I have two copies of Green Thoughts, one signed, one not. Check out that picture disc. I should get better photos of it eventually. It's rad.
My brain decided to bring up this memory for no reason today. Cereal box records. Back in the day, kid cereals would add cardboard records on the back of their boxes. You could cut them out and play them on any normal record player. The grooves were made with thin plastic and songs were pretty short.
Looking for suggestions from anyone who has experience with cleaning very old, very dirty records. These 45s were stored in boxes with no sleeves for 50 years. They actually play pretty well, considering that. A surprisingly high percentage of them are keepers. But they are filthy. #vinyl#records
Weather station at the National Weather Service Oxnard (NWS Los Angeles) recorded 2.71 inches of rainfall today, Dec. 21, 2023. That breaks the old record of 0.75 inches set in 1945. (!!!!) #rainfall#records#CAwx#LosAngeles
It's absolutely beat to hell, but when I find an original copy (JP's old copy, according to the cover) of a classic like Paranoid at Goodwill for less than $3, I can't just leave it there. It's too damn beautiful and badass. 🤘
If I could afford it I would only collect OG #bluenote records, and while still mostly gravitate toward them, the #tonepoet reissues are done so well they are hard to pass up as gap fillers. Love this one. What a lineup and session. #jazz#jazzrecords#jazzvinyl#records@vinylrecords
I've been tentatively exploring the world of music from Latin America, as part of my interest in learning Spanish and in spending more time in that part of the world (eventually).
As part of that exploration, I've been spending much more time in Calle 24, mostly because it has my fave restaurants, and also because it has a fantastic vinyl record store that specializes in music from Latin America and the Caribbean.
Apparently you can clean 78s with WD-40. I'd not tried it before, but I have one record that was so dirty it just wouldn't play - dirt puts more drag on the needle, and the spring motor isn't as powerful as an electric one, so it just ground to a halt after two or three rotations. My normal cleaning method of soapy water and a toothbrush didn't help, so I tried the WD-40... and sure enough, it plays perfectly now! #gramophone#RetroTech#records#music
To open or not open mint records?
I have a huge problem. I want to listen to my vinyl records but at the same time i want to keep them in mint condition to preserve their value....
