My latest binge watch is the 1997 Canadian series Stargate SG-1 after I accidentally saw the black hole swallowing the planet episode off-air at a friend's place.
It ran 10 years and spawned 2 sequel series and some specials.
Once you get over how every alien planet looks like British Columbia and I guess the Earth vegetation got transplanted with all the humans, huh, it's not a bad watch.
Good cast, reasonable production values for the era, more consistent writing than most shows: recommend.
An extremely expensive supercomputer is going to be built in the Arizona desert by a multibillion dollar corporation for the purposes of creating a super intelligence and it's not even a movie... 😂 #Stargate#OpenAI#Microsoft#AI
Wait, are people getting money just for pairing random #scifi concepts with #AI? Well, let me tell you my amazing idea for using an Oscillation Overthruster to bring #MachineLearning to the eighth dimension!
Ok, liebe #StarGate Bubble.
As not a role model I endorse this horror vs fantasy theory of writing.
But what if when you go through the portal, the portal also goes through you? 😜 😆
I'm watching #Lucy again (nth time) and I realised something I didn't before.
All our #scifi about man becoming very intelligent and/or “accessing more of our brain capability” leads to us losing our emotions and turn robotic. Like in #Fringe (remember Season 05).
Another example is in #StarGate, not humans exactly, but the Asgard hinted that they once were like humans, full of emotions. However, when they reached their current level of intelligence and brain processing, it all went away.
Dlaczego seria #Stargate umarła? Stargate Universe miało ten mroczny klimat i mega potencjał.

They did one "crossover" with "#Alien vs #Predator", they could either send Predator to the Alien home world for The Ultimate Conflict", or maybe a Predator/#Stargate crossover where humans travel to the Predator's home world?
I watched the two episode #BattlestarGalactica miniseries from 2003 today, and I have some mixed feelings (though mostly positive). For some reference, I grew up watching every #StarTrek show from TOS through ENT (except the animated series. Never found enough interest to try it). The #Stargate shows also hold a special place in my heart (I absolutely love every sound the gates make).
Regarding Battlestar Galactica, I like the way they handle information on the bridge and the ship. It's interesting to see something that massive designed for cyber warfare. Wireless technology is almost completely rejected. Systems that must communicate over a distance are either wired (the intercoms) or air-gapped (ship-to-ship radios). There's binders, printouts, and dry-erase boards everywhere.
I do think their radio systems could use some more explanation… Maybe I missed them addressing this, but I would be concerned about the Cylons impersonating other ships. Even if the ship systems can't be compromised by the radio, the humans could still be manipulated. At one point they "verify" a message, but I'd really like to know what that entails…
The space cinematography reminded me a lot of #StargateUniverse. Shaky, long distance shots that quickly zoom in on something. Not sure if that was just the style at the time, but I find it kinda nostalgic.
On a similar note… Is 2000s sci-fi just oddly horny? I don't think I've seen enough shows to actually make that judgement. It just sticks out at me that the similarities between BSG and SGU include sexual scenes that I feel don't quite fit or aren't actually needed. There's already plenty of sources for drama and conflict in those shows; do you really need to graphically add in sexual relationships as another?
Anyways… I did enjoy the miniseries! Probably going to watch the show as well.
